MLC roundup: Balge reaches 1,000 points

UW-Superior 79, MLC 60
NEW ULM — The Martin Luther College men’s basketball team took on UW-Superior for the second time this season on Parents’ Day Saturday afternoon.
The Yellowjackets made it hard for MLC to get much going offensively and kept the Knights in check, defeating them 79-60.
Despite the loss, senior guard Tom Balge reached the 1,000 career points milestone, needing just two points to achieve it. Balge was held scoreless in the first half, but got it off of an offensive rebound early in the second half.
Adam Loberger had 13 points for MLC, while Ben Vasold had 11 and Balge had 10.
UW-Superior 59, MLC 42
NEW ULM — The Martin Luther College women’s basketball team entered today’s contest with UW-Superior in fourth place in the UMAC standings. The Knights gave another hard-working performance on Parents’ Day, but MLC was unable to get into a rhythm offensively and fell 59-42 to the Yellowjackets.
MLC was held to 26 percent shooting in the first half as UW-Superior took a 31-15 lead at halftime. The Yellowjackets had a hot second quarter from the field (63.6 percent) and collected 5 points within the final seconds of the half after knocking down a 3-pointer off of a missed free throw by Kyler Hewitt, who hit an and-one layup just before.
Anna Kieselhorst finished with a game-high 18 points and snagged two steals for MLC. Wilhelmina Wenz led the Knights with three steals, while Ava Stein also had two.

top-10 finishes
RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The Martin Luther College men’s and women’s Indoor Track and Field teams participated in their fourth meet of the season at UW-River Falls on Saturday. The men had nine top-10 finishes, while the women recorded three top-10 results.
Notable Men’s results:
4x200m relay: 1st place – Lucas Holtz, Martin Raasch, Jeremiah Stanton, Stephen Wietzke (1:32.79).
High Jump – 2nd place – Samuel Plocher (2.01 m)
60m hurdles – 3rd place- Plocher (8.55 seconds)
Shot Put- 3rd place – R.J. Perry (15.23 meters), Isaiah Durkee 9th place (13.37m PR)
Weight Throw – 5th place – Perry (14.99m)
200m dash- 4th place- Wietzke (23.39), 6th place – Stanton (23.59)
800m – 10th place – Camden Fager (2:02.37 PR)

1 mile- 3rd place – Jemimah Habben (PR 5:18.81), 8th place – Grace Hahm (PR 5:37.40)
