New Ulm has three wrestlers place at MNGWL state tourney

CHAMPLIN – All three of the New Ulm Area wrestlers that qualified for the Minnesota Ninth-Grade Wrestling League Individual State Tournament placed in the tournament on Saturday at Champlin Park High School.

Karli Horner placed second at 130 pounds for the girls, winning by fall in 3:39 over St. Michael-Albertville’s Cora Koski and winning a 13-2 major decision over Roseau’s Kamil Williams before falling to Stillwater’s Merci Kent in the championship match. Chael Johnson placed second at 114 pounds, winning by fall in 2:59 over Fosston-Bagley’s Jack LaCroix, by a 7-4 decision over New Prague’s Graham Lofton and by fall in 2:46 over Chatfield’s Reese Schild before losing a 1-0 decision to Aleksand Kokotovich of Prior Lake in the championship. Finally, Douglass Henderson defeated Sartell’s Jack Seezs and Kasson-Mantorville’s Carter Mills to place seventh at 189.
