Area roundup: Steffl sets Cedar Mountain assists record

Cedar Mountain 72, Sleepy Eye 45
SLEEPY EYE — Aubrey Steffl set the Cedar Mountain school record for career assists on Friday as the Cougars cruised to a 72-45 win over Sleepy Eye in a Tomahawk Division girls basketball game.
Steffl passed her older brother, Blake, in assists to set the record, which now sits at 613 total after she finished with 15 points, seven assists and five steals.
Kendra Lueck led the Cougars with 24 points, nine steals, five rebounds and four assists, while Grace Hamre had 16 points, four rebounds and four steals. Kendra Erickson added 8 points and four rebounds.
Sleepy Eye was led by Jace Schauman’s 15 points, four rebounds and three steals, while Jaelynn Schauman had 13 points, 12 rebounds and three steals. Taylor Berkner added 5 points and four assists, while Alexis Hoffman had 5 points and four rebounds, Cam Maher had 4 points and Destiney Dittbenner had 3 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
Cedar Mountain (15-2, 10-1) plays at Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda on Monday, while Sleepy Eye (12-9, 8-6) is at St. James on Monday.
New Ulm 84, Worthington 31
WORTHINGTON — New Ulm routed Worthington 84-31 on Friday night in a Big South Conference girls basketball game.
Brooklyn Lewis paced the Eagles with 30 points, six rebounds, six assists and six steals, while Maggie Joyce had 19 points, five rebounds and three assists and Leah Brustad had 13 points and six steals. Riley Wilson added 8 points, 16 rebounds and six steals for the Eagles.
New Ulm (13-5, 9-1) travels to take on Redwood Valley on Monday night.
Springfield 60, Lester Prairie 48
LESTER PRAIRIE — Springfield topped Lester Prairie 60-48 on Friday night in a Tomahawk Division girls basketball game.
Olivia Milbrath had 20 points to lead the Tigers in the win, while Kendall Krueger had 12 points and Jada Reese added 9 points.
Springfield (8-11, 7-6) is at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart for another Tomahawk game Friday.
BLHS 75, GFW 53
WINTHROP — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 75-53 on Friday in a Tomahawk Division girls basketball game.
Lily Hubin scored 41 points to lead the Mustangs to victory, while Elsie Rudeen and Callie Hable each had 7 points.
GFW was led by Keyden Buboltz’s 15 points, while Taylor Bauer had 10 points, Kinley Bruns had 8 points and Madyson Steele added 7 points.
BLHS (10-5, 7-5) hosts BOLD on Thursday, while GFW (3-16, 1-12) is at Sleepy Eye on Thursday.
BOYS BASKETBALL
GFW 77, BLHS 39
WINTHROP — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop rolled to a 77-39 win over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Friday in a Tomahawk Division boys basketball game.
Cole Jacobson led the way for the Firebirds with 30 points, while Kofax Rose and Kaden Rieke each had 11 points. Eric Herrera added 9 points.
BLHS was led by Cameron McColley’s 16 points, while Ayden Buboltz and Carter Grunau each had 9 points.
GFW (11-7, 8-3) hosts Sibley East on Monday night, while BLHS (1-15, 0-11) hosts Dassel-Cokato on Monday.
Springfield 81,
Lester Prairie 55
LESTER PRAIRIE — Springfield downed Lester Prairie 81-55 on Friday night in a Tomahawk Division boys basketball game.
Bryan Buerkle led the Tigers in victory with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Parker Kuehn had 13 points and four rebounds and Aiden Moriarty had 10 points. Brecken Heiling also had 8 points for Springfield, while Madden Lendt added 7 points, 11 rebounds and five assists and Isaac Fredin had 7 points.
Springfield (15-3, 12-1) is at Class AA Jackson County Central (14-5) for a nonconference game on Thursday.
