NEW ULM — New Ulm defeated Jackson County Central 129.4-126.35 in a Big South Conference prep gymnastics meet on Tuesday.

Sophia Berger led the Eagles in all around score, placing second with a 32.325. Berger placed first on beam (8.325), fourth on vault (8.475), fourth on the floor (8.6) and fifth on bars (6.925). Avarey Sellner placed sixth all around (25.475), taking third in vault (8.5), third on the floor (8.9) and fourth on beam (8.075), while Aubrey Romsdahl placed seventh all around, finishing second on bars (7.525) and fifth on the floor (8.525). Alaina Blomberg placed eighth all around, taking sixth on bars (6.925), sixth on beam (7.65) and sixth on the floor (8.525)

Matilda Klawitter took second on vault (8.625) and beam (8.3), while Karli Schwab placed fifth on vault (8.45).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Nicollet 83, MLA 56

MOUNTAIN LAKE — Nicollet’s Carson Kettner scored his 1,000th career point in a 83-56 nonconference boys basketball win over Mountain Lake Area on Tuesday.

Kettner scored 25 points in the game, while Henry Kennedy had 14 points and Henry Oscarson had 13 points.

Nicollet (13-3, 9-1) plays at Madelia on Thursday.

Wabasso 105,

St. Mary’s 77

WABASSO — Wabasso cruised by Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 105-77 in a Tomahawk Division boys basketball game on Tuesday.

Brayden Guetter led the Rabbits with 33 points and eight rebounds, while Drew Kemp had 23 points and eight rebounds with six assists. Caden Frericks had 21 points and 27 rebounds with five assists, and Jack Burns had 15 points and four assists.

Adam Steffensmeier and Brecken Hulke each had 19 points for the Knights, while Tyler Mathiowetz had 13 points.

Wabasso (16-1, 11-1) hosts Dawson-Boyd on Thursday, while St. Mary’s (9-7, 6-5) plays Central Minnesota Christian at Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday.

Sleepy Eye 95, BLHS 66

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye downed Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 95-66 in a Tomahawk Division boys basketball game on Tuesday.

Brayden Heiderscheidt led the Indians with 23 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists, while Chase Zufall had 24 points and three rebounds. Braylon Nelson had 20 points and nine rebounds with five steals, while Eric Lozano had 12 points and seven assists with four steals.

No statistics were reported for BLHS.

Sleepy Eye (10-7, 5-7) plays at Cedar Mountain on Thursday, while BLHS (1-13, 0-10) plays at Lakeview on Thursday.

FULDA — Madelia defeated Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 74-70 in overtime in a nonconference boys basketball game on Tuesday.

Tate Becker led the Blackhawks with 23 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and four steals, while Dalton Tatro had 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Leilynd Hundley added 10 points for Madelia.

Madelia (13-2) hosts Nicollet on Thursday.

Belle Plaine 90,

New Ulm 81

BELLE PLAINE — Belle Plaine downed New Ulm 90-81 in a Big South Conference boys basketball game on Tuesday.

Mitchell Hopp led the Eagles with 21 points, while Levi Hopp had 18 points. Tanner Backer added 11 points for New Ulm.

New Ulm (7-9, 4-6) play at Jordan on Friday.

St. James 66,

Cedar Mountain 45

ST. JAMES — St. James topped Cedar Mountain 66-45 in a nonconference boys basketball game on Tuesday.

Jackson Guetter led the Cougars with 16 points and four rebounds with four steals, while Carson Schiller had 13 points and nine rebounds.

Cedar Mountain (1-13) hosts Sleepy Eye on Thursday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

MVL 51, Sibley East 45

ARLINGTON — Minnesota Valley Lutheran topped Sibley East 51-45 in a South Central Conference girls basketball game on Tuesday.

Avery Freier and Violet Hammer each had 12 points for the Chargers, while Avery Hahn had 10 points and 12 rebounds.

MVL (9-7, 2-2) plays at Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial on Saturday.

Cedar Mountain 62, Springfield 57

MORGAN — Cedar Mountain downed Springfield 62-57 in a Tomahawk Division girls basketball game on Tuesday.

Kendra Erickson led the Cougars with 24 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists, while Aubrey Steffl had 17 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and five steals. Kendra Lueck added 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and five steals.

Olivia Milbrath led the Tigers with 19 points, while Kendall Krueger had 11 points and Makay Winkelmann had 10 points.

Cedar Mountain (13-2, 8-1) plays at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Thursday, while Springfield (7-10, 6-6) hosts Nicollet on Thursday.

HECTOR — Sleepy Eye defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 58-45 in a Tomahawk Division girls basketball game on Tuesday.

Taylor Berkner led the Indians with 22 points and nine rebounds, while Jaelynn Schauman had 13 points and 12 rebounds. Jace Schauman added 10 ponts, nine rebounds and five steals.

No statistics were reported for BLHS.

Sleepy Eye (12-8, 8-5) hosts Cedar Mountain on Friday, while BLHS (9-5, 6-5) plays at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Friday.

WABASSO — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s rolled Wabasso 92-32 in a Tomahawk Division girls basketball game on Tuesday.

Olivia Schieffert led the Knights with 32 points, five assists and four steals, while Morgan Mathiowetz had 26 points, 13 assists and 11 steals. Natalie Fischer, Brynne Ibberson and Kylie Pelzel each added 8 points for St. Mary’s.

Wabasso was led by Ava Samyn with 10 points, while Kenley Guetter had 8 points.

St. Mary’s (17-0, 13-0) plays against Central Minnesota Christian at Southwest Minnesota State University on Saturday. CMC is the eighth-ranked team in Class A, while St. Mary’s is ranked second. Wabasso (6-15, 4-9) hosts Dawson-Boyd on Thursday.

CLEVELAND — Nicollet defeated Cleveland 62-52 in a Valley Division girls basketball game on Tuesday.

Jazmyn Goettlicher led the Raiders with 23 points, five rebounds, nine assists and six steals, while Cheyenne Klockziem had 11 points and four rebounds. Zoie Rengstorf added 11 points for Nicollet.

Nicollet (12-6, 8-1) plays at Springfield on Thursday.

LESTER PRAIRIE — Lester Prairie edged New Ulm Cathedral 65-64 in a Tomahawk Division girls basketball game on Tuesday.

Shay Wilfahrt led the Greyhounds with 23 points, while Jayde Altermatt had 16 points. Margo Finstad added 13 points.
