Weekend area roundup: New Ulm girls get by St. Peter

New Ulm 56, St. Peter 54
ST. PETER — The New Ulm Eagles girls basketball team held on for a 56-54 win over St. Peter on Saturday night in a Big South Conference girls basketball game.
Leah Brustad led the Eagles with 23 points, while Brooklyn Lewis had 19 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals. Maggie Joyce added 13 points for the Eagles, now 11-4 overall and 7-1 in the conference.
This was New Ulm’s fourth win in a row against St. Peter dating back to last season.
New Ulm hosts Belle Plaine in conference action Tuesday night.
MVL 71, Redwood Valley 49
NEW ULM — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran Chargers ran away with a 71-49 win over Redwood Valley on Saturday in a nonconference girls basketball game.
MVL (8-6) outscored Redwood Valley 44-16 in the first half.
Ziva Zahrt led the Chargers with 24 points and 14 rebounds, while Olivia Hammer added 16 points and Avery Hahn had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Avery Freier also had 9 points and six steals, while Violet Hammer had 6 points.
Lilyana Dixon led Redwood Valley (0-18) with 20 points.
MVL is at Sibley East on Tuesday night for a South Central Conference game.
