New Ulm falls to seventh-ranked Albert Lea

NEW ULM — Albert Lea scored three goals in the second and three more in the third on its way to a 7-0 win over New Ulm in a nonconference girls hockey game during New Ulm Hockey day on Saturday.

Albert Lea, who is ranked seventh in Class A by QRF, got four goals from Morgan Goskeson in the shutout. The Tigers outshot the Eagles 39-10 on the day, with New Ulm goaltender Ava Schmid collecting 32 saves.

Goskeson earned her first goal at 5:22 of the first period, then Haley Austinson made it a 2-0 game with a shot 46 seconds into the second period. This startet a flurry of scoring as Goskeson scored twice more within the next two minutes, once at 1:25 and again at 1:56 of the second period.

New Ulm held off any more scoring in the second period, but Goskeson got it going again 6:32 into the third with her fourth goal of the night. Indiana Hansen and Hanna Austinson scored at 7:52 and 8:26, respectively, to make it a 7-0 game.

New Ulm had its best scoring chance of the night with 6:35 left to play as Brecklyn Harazin sent a long shot towards the net, but it struck the right upright, missing by inches.

New Ulm (4-12-1) hosts Marshall on Tuesday.
