MORGAN — Cedar Mountain’s Aubrey Steffl became the 19th Journal area basketball player to score 2,000 career points with a 15-point performance against New Ulm Cathedral Tuesday in a Tomahawk Division girls basketball game.
Steffl added six rebounds, nine assists and five steals in the game. Kendra Erickson led the Cougars with 23 points, four rebounds and three steals, while Kendra Lueck had 14 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Jayde Altermatt led the Greyhounds with 16 points, while Margo Finstad had 10 points.
Cedar Mountain (8-2, 5-1) hosts Wabasso on Friday, while Cathedral (2-7, 1-5) plays at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in Gibbon on Thursday.
MVL 86, Loyola 51
MANKATO — Minnesota Valley Lutheran rolled Mankato Loyola 86-51 in a nonconference girls basketball game on Tuesday.
Avery Freier led the Chargers with 28 points and five steals, while Tori Ringen had 13 points and four rebounds.
MVL (6-4) plays at Nicollet on Saturday.

GIBBON — Sleepy Eye defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 57-48 in a Tomahawk Division girls basketball game on Tuesday.
Taylor Berkner led the Indians with 21 points, while Jaelynn Schauman had 15 points. Jace Schauman added 10 points, while Destiny Dittbenner had 5 points and 10 blocks.
Taylor Bauer led the Firebirds with 13 points, while Keydon Buboltz had 12 points. Kinley Bruns added 11 points.
Sleepy Eye (8-6, 4-3) hosts Springfield on Thursday, while GFW (2-8, 1-5) hosts New Ulm Cathedral on Thursday.

LESTER PRAIRIE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s cruised by Lester Prairie 105-28 in a Tomahawk Division girls basketball game on Tuesday.
Morgan Mathiowetz led the Knights with 48 points, five rebounds, 12 assists and eight steals, while Taylor Mathiowetz had 19 points and three assists. Olivia Schieffert added 13 points, three assists and four steals.
St. Mary’s (11-0, 7-0) hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Friday.
BLHS 74, Wabasso 55
WABASSO — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart defeated Wabasso 74-55 in a Tomahawk Division girls basketball game on Tuesday.
Lily Hubin scored 31 for BLHS, while EB Ovitt had 21. Callie Hable added 12 points for the Mustangs.
Kenley Guetter led the Rabbits with 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Sara Carlson had 15 points and five rebounds with three steals.
BLHS (5-2, 2-3) hosts Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Friday, while Wabasso (5-8, 3-4) plays at Cedar Mountain on Friday.

NEW ULM — Minnesota Valley Lutheran defeated Martin County West 67-27 in a nonconference boys basketball game on Tuesday.
Owen Birkholz led the Chargers with 21 points on seven made 3-pointers, while Luke Merseth had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Pierson Brau added 10 points and seven rebounds.
MVL (6-3) hosts Sibley East on Friday.
GFW 80, Sleepy Eye 71
SLEEPY EYE — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop snapped a three-game losing skid and picked up an 80-71 win over Sleepy Eye on Tuesday night in a Tomahawk Division boys basketball game.
Cole Jacobson led the Firebirds in the win with 24 points, while Kaden Rieke had 19 points and Owen Swenson had 11 points. Matthew Lee, Eric Herrera and Luke Bastian each added 8 points for GFW.
Braylon Nelson led Sleepy Eye with 19 points, six rebounds and three assists, while Eric Lozano had 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals and Brayden Heiderscheidt had 16 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Robert Romberg added 9 points.
Sleepy Eye (8-2, 4-2) is at Springfield on Friday night, while GFW (4-4, 2-1) is at New Ulm Cathedral on Friday night.

MADELIA — The Madelia Blackhawks topped Atwater-Cosmos/Grove City 71-57 on Tuesday in a nonconference boys basketball game.
Dalton Tatro led Madelia with 19 points, eight rebounds and four steals, while Tate Becker had 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals and Bryce Borkenhagen had 13 points and three assists. Kaydon Firchau added 10 points, all in the first half, while Caden McMullen had 8 points, eight rebounds and eight blocks.
Madelia (7-0) hosts Martin County West on Friday in Valley Division action.
St. Mary’s 66,

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Lester Prairie 66-51 in a Tomahawk Division boys basketball game on Tuesday.
Adam Steffensmeier led the Knights with 25 points and seven rebounds, while Tyler Mathiowetz had 13 points and five rebounds.
St. Mary’s (5-4, 3-2) plays at Cleveland on Thursday.
Springfield 89, Loyola 59
MANKATO — Springfield downed Mankato Loyola 89-59 in a nonconference boys basketball game on Tuesday.
Brecken Heiling led the Tigers with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Parke Kuehn had 17 points and four rebounds. Madden Lendt added 16 points and eight rebounds.
Springfield (6-3) hosts Sleepy Eye on Friday.
Wabasso 93, BLHS 47
WABASSO — Wabasso rolled Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 93-47 in a Tomahawk Division boys basketball game on Tuesday.
Brayden Guetter led the Rabbits with 25 points, eight rebounds and six assists, while Caden Frericks had 22 points, 15 rebounds and four steals. Drew Kemp added 16 points, six assists and five steals for Wabasso.
Carter Grunau led the Mustangs with 14 points, while Cameron McColley had 11 points.
Wabasso (10-0, 6-0) hosts Cedar Mountain on Friday, while BLHS (1-8, 0-5) plays at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Friday.
GIRLS HOCKEY
New Ulm 14, Waseca 0
WASECA — New Ulm rolled South Central on Tuesday with a 14-0 shutout win in a Big South Conference girls hockey game.
New Ulm was led by Callie Haugen and Madalynn Olson’s hat tricks. Haugen also had an assist, while Olson had two assists. New Ulm also got two goals each from Tenley Wertish, Lilly Kral and Tristyn Wolner, while Brecklyn Harazin and Brielynn Weston each had a goal.
Kral also had two assists, while Zoey Zins, Kaelynn Welsh, Harazin, Wolner and Abby Forstner each had an assist.
Eagles goalie Ava Schmid had 13 saves, while the Eagles had 43 shots on goal.
