Area roundup: Cedar Mountain girls win again

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Cedar Mountain 90, YME 71

COTTONWOOD — Cedar Mountain finished its time at the Lakeview High School Invite 2-0 with another win Tuesday as the Cougars defeated Yellow Medicine East 90-71 in a nonconference girls basketball game.

Kendra Erickson led the way for the Cougars with 27 points, five rebounds and two steals, while Aubrey Steffl had 25 points, 10 rebounds and nine steals. Kendra Lueck added 17 points, four steals and three rebounds, while Grace Hamre had 9 points.

Cedar Mountain (6-2) hosts Nicollet in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover game on Monday night in Morgan.

USC 64, Cathedral 31

WELLS — United South Central downed New Ulm Cathedral 64-31 in a nonconference girls basketball game on Tuesday.

Shay Wilfahrt and Jayde Altermatt led the Greyhounds with 9 points, while Margo Finstad had 6 points for Cathedral.

Cathedral (1-7) hosts Mankato Loyola on Saturday.

MLA 75, Springfield 69

MOUNTAIN LAKE — Mountain Lake Area defeated Springfield 75-69 in a nonconference girls basketball game on Tuesday.

Olivia Milbrath led the Tigers with 21 points and eight rebounds, while Kendall Krueger had 17 points, six rebounds and four steals. Jada Reese added 15 points and eight rebounds for Springfield.

Springfield (5-4) hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Nicollet 76, YME 34

COTTONWOOD — Nicollet rolled Yellow Medicine East 76-34 in a boys basketball game during the Lakeview High School Tournament on Tuesday.

Carson Kettner led the Raiders with 18 points, while Abe Madson had 12 points. Henry Oscarson and Toby Oscarson both had 11 points.

Nicollet (6-2) hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Monday.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Holy Angels 5, New Ulm 0

BLAKE — New Ulm fell to Holy Angels 5-0 on Tuesday on the second day of the Blake Girls Hockey Invite.

New Ulm goalie Ava Schmid had 40 saves.

Holy Angels outshot the Eagles 45-6.

New Ulm (3-10-1) travels to Waseca to take on South Central on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
