Area roundup: Raiders top Lakeview, Mustangs snag 1st win

BOYS BASKETBALL

Nicollet 83, Lakeview 69

COTTONWOOD — The Nicollet Raiders took down Lakeview 83-69 on Monday in a Lakeview High School boys basketball invite game.

The Raiders (5-2) were led by Keegan Hulke’s 24 points, while Henry Kennedy had 16 points and eight rebounds. Abe Madson added 14 points for the Raiders, while Carson Kettner had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Nicollet takes on Yellow Medicine East at 4 p.m. Tuesday on the final day of the invite.

BLHS 74, YME 44

HECTOR — The Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Mustangs boys basketball team earned their first win of the season in dominant fashion Monday, running by Yellow Medicine East with a 74-44 win in nonconference action.

Cayden Wiggins led the Mustangs (1-5) with 22 points, while Cameron McColley had 15 points. Coltan Grunau and Ayden Buboltz were also in double figures for the Mustangs with 12 points apiece.

The Mustangs travel to Lamberton to take on Red Rock Central in another nonconference game at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Cedar Mountain 57, Lakeview 49

COTTONWOOD — The Cedar Mountain Cougars defeated Lakeview 57-49 on Monday in girls basketball action at the Lakeview High School Invite.

The Cougars (5-2) were led by Kendra Erickson’s 23 points, 11 rebounds and four steals, while Kendra Lueck had 17 points, five steals and three rebounds. Aubrey Steffl added 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals for the Cougars.

Cedar Mountain finishes its time in the invite with a game against Yellow Medicine East at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday back at Lakeview High School.

Fairmont 69, MVL 34

LAKE CRYSTAL — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran Chargers struggled to contain Fairmont’s Brylee Miller on Monday as she scored 31 points to lead the Cardinals to a 69-34 win in a Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial Tournament girls basketball game.

The Chargers (4-3) were led by Avery Freier’s 8 points and two steals, while Ziva Zahrt had 6 points and seven rebounds, Avery Hahn had 6 points and Olivia Hammer had 4 points and three assists.

MVL continues its time in the tourney when it plays LCWM at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the consolation bracket.

Minneota 59,

Sleepy Eye 46

MARSHALL — Sleepy Eye fell to Minneota 59-46 on Monday during a Southwest Minnesota State University girls basketball invite game.

Sleepy Eye (6-5) was led by Taylor Berkner’s 17 points and seven rebounds, while Jace Schauman had 11 points, six rebounds, eight steals and three assists. Sleepy Eye also got 10 points, five rebounds and four steals from Jaelynn Schauman, while Alexis Hoffman had 8 points and three steals.

Sleepy Eye hosts a girls-boys doubleheader Saturday, with the Sleepy Eye girls playing Lester Prairie at 1 p.m. and the Sleepy Eye boys playing Lester Prairie at 2:30 p.m.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Breck 11, New Ulm 0

BLAKE — New Ulm was shut out by No. 2-ranked Breck 11-0 on Monday on the first day of the Blake Girls Hockey Invite.

New Ulm was outshot 48-3, with Eagles goalie Ava Schmid making 37 saves.

New Ulm continues play at the invite against the Academy of Holy Angels at noon Tuesday.
