New Ulm legion baseball HOF to induct 4
Membership in the New Ulm American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame will increase to 111 on Saturday, Dec. 27, as four new members will join the group.
The induction ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. at New Ulm’s American Legion Post 132.
The Hall of Fame was created in 1987, and the selection committee has chosen three former players and a former coach to be honored this year. The event is free and open to the public, and past inductees are encouraged to attend. A player’s Legion Baseball career must have been completed at least 10 years prior to being considered for induction. There is no requirement for consideration of non-players.
Judd Davis
Davis played Legion Baseball for one game in 2012, and then from 2013-2015. Those teams qualified for the state tournament all three years, including a third-place finish in 2015. As a shortstop, he was considered an outstanding fielder. Used primarily as the lead off batter, he had a career batting average of .375, and a slugging percentage of .496. Judd lives in New Ulm with his wife Anna, and they have one son. He is employed at Gag Sheet Metal as a project manager.
Tanner Kluis
Kluis played Legion Baseball in one game in 2012, and then from 2013 to 2015. Those teams qualified for the state tournament all three years, including a third-place finish in
2015. He had a career batting average of .334 and drove in 86 runs in 314 at bats. As a pitcher, he had a career 13-3 win/loss record for an .813 winning percentage, and a 3.18
ERA in 133 innings pitched. Tanner attended college for two years, and in 2016 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp where he served until March of 2025. He now resides in Alpine, CA with his wife, Megan, and works as a Logistic Analyst with Oceaneering on the Naval Air Station in Coronado, CA.
Bob Sellner
Sellner was a member of New Ulm’s Legion team that qualified for the American Legion Baseball World Series in 1985 and continued playing in 1986 and 1987. For his career, he compiled a .304 batting average in 250 at bats. As a pitcher, he had a win/loss record of 16-5, with those wins being among the most in program history. His winning percentage was .762, and his ERA was 3.56 in 118.2 innings. Bob and his wife Joanne live in San Diego CA. They have been married 32 years and have three married children and two grandchildren. He has worked for Johnson & Johnson for 28 years and is currently district sales manager in the neuroscience division.
Jeff Stoll
Stoll was head coach of New Ulm’s Legion baseball teams in 1984 and 1985. The 1985 team had an historic season, finishing with a record of 32-15. They were the champions of the Region 5 “Great Lakes” Regional, which qualified them to play in the American Legion Baseball World Series, held that year in Kokomo, IN. The team finished 1-2 in that event, with their last loss to the eventual World Series champion Midlothian, VA. Jeff recently retired from teaching and resides in Kalispell, Montana with his wife Joan, and they have a son and a daughter. Jeff enjoys golfing, hunting, and watching their grandchildren playing sports.
