WABASSO — Wabasso ran by New Ulm Cathedral 96-37 on Friday in a Tomahawk Division boys basketball game.

Tavyn Larson led the Rabbits in the win with 25 points and four rebounds, while Brayden Guetter had 24 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Drew Kemp added 14 points and Caden Frericks had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Cathedral was led by Eli Anderson’s 20 points, while Jimmy Jensen added 6 points.

Wabasso (6-0, 4-0) is at Lester Prairie for a Tomahawk game on Tuesday, while Cathedral (1-5, 1-3) is at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart for Tomahawk action on Monday.

Sleepy Eye 72, Cedar Mountain 40

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye topped Cedar Mountain 72-40 on Friday night in a Tomahawk Division boys basketball game.

Brayden Heiderscheidt led Sleepy Eye with 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while Robert Romberg had 15 points and four rebounds and Braylon Nelson had 7 points, 14 rebounds and five assists.

Cedar Mountain was led by Carson Schiller, who had 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Blake Koerner added 8 points, while Jackson Guetter had 7 points and seven rebounds.

Sleepy Eye (4-1, 3-1) is at Nicollet for a 5:45 p.m. Tomahawk-Valley crossover game, while Cedar Mountain (1-4, 1-3) hosts Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s in a Tomahawk game Monday night.

Madelia 94, MLA/C 52

MADELIA — Madelia rolled Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey 94-52 in a nonconference boys basketball game on Friday.

Kaydon Firchau led the Blackhawks with 31 points, five assists, six steals and two blocks, while Dalton Tatro had 14 points and eight rebounds. Tate Becker added 13 points and four steals, while Bryce Borkenhagen had 10 poitns, 10 assists and nine rebounds.

Madelia (6-0) hosts Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons on Jan. 5.

Springfield 83, Lester Prairie 50

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield took down Lester Prairie 83-50 in a Tomahawk Division boys basketball game on Friday.

Parker Kuehn led the Tigers with 19 points and four steals, while Brecken Heiling had 18 points. Isaac Fredin and Dylan Simonson each had 10 points.

Springfield (3-2, 3-1) plays at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Monday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Wabasso 56, Cathedral 41

WABASSO — Wabasso defeated New Ulm Cathedral 56-41 in a Tomahawk Division girls basketball game on Friday.

Kenely Guetter led the Rabbits with 20 points and 26 rebounds, while Ava Samyn had 15 points and nine rebounds. Cassie Bliss added 8 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

No statistics were reported for Cathedral.

Wabasso (2-6, 2-3) hosts Lakeview on Monday, while Cathedral (1-5, 1-3) plays at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Friday.

LESTER PRAIRIE — Springfield downed Lester Prairie 80-50 in a Tomahawk Division girls basketball game on Friday.

Makay Winkelmann had 22 points, four rebounds and three steals for Springfield, while Kendall Krueger had 14 points, five rebounds and five steals. Olivia Milbrath added 14 points and seven rebounds.

Springfield (4-3, 3-2) hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Monday.

New Ulm 128.225

FAIRMONT — Martin County Area Magic defeated New Ulm 135 to 128.225 in a Big South Conference gymnastics meet on Friday.

Sophia Berger led the Eagles with a 31.85 all around score, good for third, while Alaina Blomber placed fifth with a 30.875. Matilda Klawitter placed sixth with a 30.35, while Aubrey Romsdahl placed seventh with a 24.8.

Karli Schwab took third in vault (8.875) for New Ulm, while Romsdahl placed third on bars (7.65), with Blomberg taking fifth (7.15). Romsdahl placed fourth on beam (8.4), with Berger placing fifth (7.825), and Romsdahl also placed third on the floor (8.75), with Berger taking fifth (8.425).

GIRLS HOCKEY

Luverne 4, New Ulm 1

LUVERNE — New Ulm fell to Luverne 4-1 on Friday night in a Big South Conference crossover girls hockey game.

Brecklyn Harazin scored the line goal for New Ulm on the power play at 16:49 of the third period.
