MORGAN — Springfield head coach Lance Larson recorded his 400th career win as the Tigers took down Cedar Mountain 78-43 in a Tomahawk Division boys basketball game Tuesday night.

Madden Lendt had 20 points, eight assists seven rebounds for the Tigers, while Parker Kuehn had 20 points, six rebounds and four steals. Brecken Heiling added 13 points and six rebounds.

Blake Koerner led the Cougars with 15 points and two rebounds, while Carson Schiller had 14 points and five rebounds.

Springfield (2-2, 2-1) hosts Lester Prairie on Friday, while Cedar Mountain (1-3, 1-2) plays at BOLD on Thursday.

Wabasso 102,

St. Mary’s 60

SLEEPY EYE — Wabasso surpassed the century mark for the second time this season with a 102-60 win over Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Division boys basketball game.

Caden Frericks led the Rabbits with 25 points and 21 rebounds, while Tavyn Larson had 21 points and three rebounds. Drew Kemp had 18 points, five assists and four rebounds, and Brayden Guetter had 15 points, six assists and five rebounds.

Adam Steffensmeier led the Knights with 16 points, while Michael Balko had 15 points.

Wabasso (5-0, 3-0) hosts Dawson-Boyd on Thursday, while St. Mary’s (3-2, 1-2) plays at Mankato Loyola on Friday.

Madelia 88, Nicollet 74

NICOLLET — In a battle between unbeaten teams, Madelia came out on top of Nicolet 88-74 in a Valley Division boys basketball game on Tuesday.

Kaydon Firchau led the Blackhawks with 38 points, eight assists and four steals, while Dalton Tatro had 18 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Caden McMullen had 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Tate Becker had 11 points and seven rebounds.

Abe Madson had 18 points to lead the Raiders, while Henry Oscarson had 17 points. Henry Kennedy had 12 points and seven rebounds, Keegan Hulke had 11 points and Carson Kettner added 10 points and nine rebounds.

Madelia (5-0, 4-0) hosts Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey on Friday, while Nicollet (4-1, 4-1) hosts Sleepy Eye on Thursday.

Lester Prairie 70

LESTER PRAIRIE — New Ulm Cathedral earned its first win of the season with a 83-70 victory over Lester Prairie Tuesday in a Tomahawk Division boys basketball game.

Eli Anderson led the Greyhounds with 28 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Ryler Collins had 15 points and four rebounds. Quinten Forst had 18 points and 15 rebounds for Cathedral.

Cathedral (1-4, 1-2) plays at Wabasso on Friday.

Sleepy Eye 84, BLHS 54

HECTOR — Sleepy Eye cruised by Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 84-54 in a Tomahawk Division boys basketball game on Tuesday.

Brayden Heiderscheidt led the Indians with 26 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals, while Eric Lozano had 18 points, six assists and four rebounds. Robert Romberg had 16 points, while Chase Zufall had 12 points and five rebounds.

Sleepy Eye (3-1, 2-1) plays at Nicollet on Thursday, while BLHS (0-4, 0-2) hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Thursday.

Wabasso 22

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Marys’ Morgan Mathiowetz surpassed Kadence Hesse for second-most career points in the city of Sleepy Eye with a 38-point performance against Wabasso in a Tomahawk Division girls basketball game on Tuesday.

Mathiowetz now sits behind just her sister, Maddison, on the all-time scoring list in the city of Sleepy Eye.

Mathiowetz added 11 assists, nine rebounds and six steals for the Knights, while Olivia Schieffert had 20 points, four assists, four steals and three rebounds. Natalie Fischer had 14 points, three rebounds and four steals, while Brynne Ibberson had 11 points, four rebounds and four steals.

Ava Samyn led the Rabbits with 11 points and three rebounds, while Elizabeth Morin had 6 points and three rebounds. Kenley Guetter added 5 points and eight rebounds.

St. Mary’s (8-0, 4-0) hosts New Ulm Cathedral on Thursday, while Wabasso (1-6, 1-3) hosts Cathedral on Friday.

BELLE PLAINE — New Ulm cruised to a 78-46 victory over Belle Plaine in a Big South Conference girls basketball game on Tuesday.

Brooklyn Lewis led the Eagles with 26 points, five assists and seven steals, while Maggie Joyce had 18 points and four rebounds. Leah Brustad had 16 points, five rebounds and four steals, while Riley Wilson had 10 points and eight rebounds.

New Ulm (4-1, 3-1) hosts Central Public on Thursday.

Sleepy Eye 67, BLHS 65

HECTOR — Sleepy Eye edged Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 67-65 in a Tomahawk Division girls basketball game on Tuesday.

Taylor Berkner led the Indians with 27 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals, while Alexis Hoffman had 11 points and five rebounds. Jace Schauman added 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

No statistics were reported for BLHS.

Sleepy Eye (5-3, 2-2) plays at Nicollet on Thursday, while BLHS (3-2, 0-2) hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Thursday.

SPRINGFIELD — Cedar Mountain defeated Springfield 55-44 in a Tomahawk Division girls basketball game on Tuesday.

Kendra Erickson led the Cougars with 19 points, five rebounds and two steals, while Aubrey Steffl stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, nine rebounds, six assists, four steals and two blocks. Kendra Lueck added 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Kendall Krueger led the Tigers with 14 points, while Makay Winkelmann had 9 points.

Cedar Mountain (3-1, 3-0) plays Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey in Comfrey on Thursday, while Springfield (3-3, 2-2) hosts Lester Prairie on Friday.

PREP GYMNASTICS

New Ulm 125.775, Redwood Valley 119.575

REDWOOD FALLS — New Ulm defeated Redwood Valley 125.775 to 119.575 in a Big South Conference gymnastics meet on Tuesday.

Sophia Berger led all gynmists with a 30.95 all-around score, followed by Alaina Blomberg with a 30.6. Matlilda Klawitter came in fourth with a 24.25, while Aubrey Romsdahl finished with a 23.4 for New Ulm.

Berger won the beam with a 7.625, followed by Romsdahl (7.575) and Klawitter (7.55), while Romsdahl won the floor with an 8.675, followed by Blomberg (8.475) and Klawitter (8.22). Allison Hoxmeier took third on bars (7.3) for New Ulm, while Karli Schwab took second in the vault (8.65)and Klawitter placed third in the vault (8.65).

BOYS HOCKEY

Minn. River 5, New Ulm 3

LE SUEUR — The Minnesota River Bulldogs evened the score on Tuesday with the New Ulm Eagles as the Bulldogs pulled out a 5-3 win in a Big South Conference boys hockey game.

New Ulm defeated Minnesota River in New Ulm on Dec. 2 in OT.

Trevan Thordson scored for New Ulm unassisted to get the Eagles on the board in the first period before the Bulldogs tied it early in the second. Carsten Haala scored on the power play at 5:49 of the second period to put New Ulm back in front, and Hunter Larson added another goal at the 11:55 mark of the period for a 3-1 lead. Minnesota River added another goal in the period before scoring three more in the third for the win.

Eagles goalie Blaine Arneson stopped 26 shots, while Bulldogs goalie Conner Messer had 29 saves.
