NEW ULM — Despite it being a Tuesday evening to forget from the 3-point line, the Martin Luther College Knights shifted gears on defense in the second half and worked the paint on offense on the way to a 59-40 win over St. Olaf College in a nonconference women’s basketball game at MLC.
The Knights couldn’t get their 3-point shot to drop all game, finishing 1 for 27 from beyond the arc. But with a dominant post game from senior Lydia Feidt, and a lockdown defensive effort in the second half, the Knights didn’t need their 3 anyway.
Feidt finished with a game-high 24 points and pulled in 13 rebounds for a double-double to lead the Knights. She also had seven steals to lead the Knights on defense.
Mya Morris added 12 points and six rebounds for the Knights, while Wilhelmina Wenz had 8 points and 15 rebounds and Ava Walz had 8 points and four rebounds. Ava Stein chipped in 5 points.
St. Olaf was led by Erin Schauer and Hallie Koltz, who each had 8 points.

MLC shot 32% from the floor to St. Olaf’s 34.8%, but the Knights had just 10 turnovers to St. Olaf’s 23.
The Knights led 11-5 in the first quarter after an 8-0 was finished with a layup from Walz, but St. Olaf ended the quarter on a 6-0 run to make it 11-11 after one period of play.
The second period was back and forth until St. Olaf got a layup in the final minute from Schauer to hold a 21-19 lead entering the half.
After a close opening few minutes of the third, Morris had 6 consecutive points and Feidt added a fast-break layup in the closing minutes of the third to give the Knights a 42-29 lead entering the fourth.
St. Olaf never got closer to MLC than 10 points in the fourth, with a layup by Walz in the last minute giving the Knights their largest lead of the game and final score.
MLC moves to 3-2 with the win, while St. Olaf falls to 4-2.
