Area football roundup: Greyhounds struggle to contain Edgerton

Edgerton 52, Cathedral 7

Edgerton defeated New Ulm Cathedral 52-7 in a Nine-man South District, West Subdistrict game on Wednesday.

Alex Portner led the Greyhounds with 10 carries for 65 yards, while Eli Anderson had 12 carries for 39 yards and a touchdown.

The defense was led by Evan Blekestad with nine tackles, while Josh Forstner and Portner both had six tackles.

Cathedral (4-3) finishes the regular season and awaits playoff seeding for its next game.

SEU 50, Hayfield 8

HAYFIELD — Sleepy Eye United defeated Hayfield 50-8 in a nondistrict football game on Wednesday.

Brayden Heiderscheidt led the team with 45 yards passing and two touchdowns, while Keeyan Netzke had 94 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Carson Uecker added 45 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

SEU (3-5) finishes the regular season and awaits playoff seeding for its next game.

Wabasso 20, HLO/F 18

FULDA — Wabasso put together a fourth-quarter comeback and helf off a comeback by Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda on Wednesday night to win 20-18 in a Nine-Man South District, West Subdistrict football game.

The Rabbits trailed 12-6 after an HLO/F touchdown early in the fourth quarter but they answered with an 87-yard kickoff return by Nolan Leopold to take the lead back at 14-12. Drew Kemp later completed a 9-yard TD pass to Leopold for a 20-12 lead. HLO/F got a TD pass back from Kaston Clarke with 1:01 left, but the 2-point conversion throw failed and the Rabbits hung on.

Kemp completed 11 of 18 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown while also rushing four times for 10 yards and a score. Leopold caught six passes for 64 yards and the late TD, while Sam Zeug led the Rabbits on the ground with 13 carries for 59 yards. Joe Rohlik added 10 carries for 44 yards, while Zach Skoblik had five carries for 36 yards.

Nolan Hanson led the Wabasso defense with 11 tackles, while Zek Olson had 10 tackles, Mason Kampsen had nine tackles and a forced fumble and Josh Timm had eight tackles.

Wabasso (7-1) prepares for Nine-Man playoffs next week against an opponent to be determined.

Waseca 21, New Ulm 14

Waseca defeated New Ulm 21-14 in a Southeast Central District game Wednesday night.

The Eagles were led by George Gag with a 15-yard touchdown catch from Owen Castleman and a 8-yard touchdown run from Jamison Portner.

New Ulm (2-6) finishes the regular season and awaits playoff seeding for its next game.
