Area roundup: Eagles swept in Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON — New Ulm was swept by Hutchinson Monday night in a nonconference volleyball match as the Tigers won 25-16, 25-19, 25-14.

Lily Poehler led the Eagles with seven kills and 11 digs, while Brooklyn Lewis and Karly Meier each had four kills. Izzy Longtin added 12 set assists, 13 digs and two blocks for the Eagles, while Lauren Schmiesing had three blocks and an ace, Makenna LeGare had 10 digs, Keira Sullivan had two blocks, Avarey Sellner had two blocks and Lauren Hintz had an ace serve.

New Ulm hosts Redwood Valley on Monday.

MCW 3, Sleepy Eye 1

SHERBURN — Sleepy Eye fell to Martin County West in four sets of a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover volleyball match as the Mavericks won 25-13, 25-12, 24-26, 25-18.

Sam Price led Sleepy Eye with 19 kills and 13 digs, while Callie Evers and Makayla Strong each had five kills. Destiney Dittbenner had 10 digs, while Jaelynn Schauman had 12 digs and four blocks, Hannah Meyer had 16 set assists and seven digs and Ava Kunkel had 14 set assists and five digs.

No. 11 Sleepy Eye begins Section 2A tournament action on Monday at No. 6 BOLD.

RCW 3, GFW 0

WINTHROP — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop fell to Renville County West in three sets of a nonconference volleyball match as RCW won 25-13, 25-11, 25-22.

GFW was led by Ella Nachreiner, who had 11 kills and three blocks, while Kora Schwarzrock had seven kills and Kinley Bruns had 11 digs and two aces. Natalie Ahlbrecht added eight assists, three blocks and four aces for GFW, while Maren Kemkes had 10 assists.

No. 16-seeded GFW begins the Section 2A playoffs at No. 1-seeded Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Monday.

St. Clair 3, Nicollet 0

NICOLLET — Nicollet battled but was swept by St. Clair in a Valley Division volleyball match on Monday night as the Cyclones won 25-22, 25-23, 25-22.

Megan Soost had eight kills to lead Nicollet, while Kamryn Truebenbach, Cheyenne Klockziem and Jazmyn Goettlicher each have five kills. Chloe Kachelmeier led Nicollet in digs with 13, while Zoie Rengstorf had 15 assists and Lydia Martens had 13 assists. Klockziem also had three blocks.

No. 14-seeded Nicollet begins Section 2A playoffs at No. 4 Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Monday.
