New Ulm 3, Westonka 2
MINNETRISTA — No. 3 New Ulm came away with a 3-2 victory over Westonka in the Section 2AA Boys Soccer Tournament Semifinals to advance to the championship game against No. 4 Worthington on Tuesday.
After a scoreless first half and a one-hour lightning delay, Westonka scored its two goals within the first three minutes of the second half, both on corner kicks. Levi Johnson started the comeback with a goal, assisted by Logan Goblirsch with 30:58 left in the game. Josh Shaneman scored next, assisted by Johnson, with 11:39 to play to tie the game. Finally, Daniel Brownfield scored on an assist by Jackson Ocampo with 3:10 to play.
Austin Krohn had seven saves in the game.
PREP VOLLEYBALL
MVL 3, Sleepy Eye 1
SLEEPY EYE — Minnesota Valley Lutheran defeated Sleepy Eye 25-20, 15-25, 25-14, 25-21 in a nonconference volleyball match on Thursday.
Jenna Bates led the Chargers with 18 kills, 11 digs and three aces, while Olivia Hammer had eight kills, three digs and an ace. Ellie Kaeserman had seven kills, three blocks and three digs with an ace, and Graysie Black had 33 set assists, 13 digs, three kills and four aces. Taryn Gunderson added 17 digs and four aces.
Sam Price led Sleepy Eye with 13 kills and 16 digs, while Callie Evers had seven kills. Jaelynn Schauman had four kills, five aces, nine digs and two blocks, and Jace Schauman had 11 digs. Hannah Meyer had 14 set assists, six digs and two aces, and Ava Kunkel had 14 set assists and six digs.
MVL (13-12) hosts St. James Area on Monday, while Sleepy Eye (5-16) plays at Martin County West on Monday.
Cleveland 3, St. Mary’s 1
CLEVELAND — Cleveland defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 26-28, 25-22, 25-12, 25-16 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover volleyball match on Thursday.
Morgan Mathiowetz led the Knights with 20 kills, while Audra Hoffmann had 10 kills. Josie Helget had 43 set assists and 20 digs, and Natalie Fischer had 19 digs.
St. Mary’s (19-6) awaits playoff seeding for its next game.

New Ulm 0
MANKATO — Mankato East swept New Ulm 24-14, 25-22, 25-17 in a nonconference volleyball match Thursday.
Karly Meier led the Eagles with nine kills and two blocks, while Izzy Longtin had four kills and 11 digs. Keira Sullivan had four kills and two blocks, and Brooklyn Lewis had 11 digs, an ace and two blocks. Lily Pohler had 16 set assists and 15 digs, and Lauren Schmiesing had four blocks.
New Ulm (8-16) plays in a tournament at Bloomington Jefferson on Saturday.

MVL boys place second in Madelia
MADELIA — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran boys cross-country team placed second out of seven teams in a prep cross-country meet on Thursday.
Loyola-Cleveland-St. Clair won the boys meet (38), followed by MVL (60), Madelia (87), Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s/Sleepy Eye/New Ulm Cathedral (92), Springfield/Cedar Mountain (118), Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin (148) and Maple River (180).
MVL’s Titus Kohls placed third in the meet (17:42.12), while teammate Jeremy Feister placed fifth (17:52.26). Madelia’s Caleb DeCann placed sixth (17:56.52), and SM/SE/NUC’s Max Fischer placed seventh (18:07.77). SM/SE/NUC’s Raul Rodriguez placed ninth (18:12.95), and S/CM’s Dylan Dewitt placed 10th (18:17.98). Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop’s Juan Sunun-Perez placed 11th (18:18.49), Madelia’s Tyrone Stout took 12th (18:27.61), S/CM’s Bryan Buerkle finished 14th (18:54.30) and MVL’s Tucker Kohls placed 15th (18:54.68).
On the girls side of the meet, L/C/SC took first (21), followed by S/CM (65), MCW/BO (102), GFW (107), Maple River (118) and MVL (119).
S/CM’s Lydia Dauer finished eighth individually (21:30.89), while teammate Farrah Dauer took ninth (21:32.54). MVL’s Faith Peters finished 10th (21:35.45), and SM/SE/NUC’s Emma Hagen placed 11th (21:46.33). S/CM’s Katie Thram placed 13th (22:06.5) and SM/SE/NUC’s Millie Lax placed 14th (22:13.27). GFW’s Madyson Steele placed 18th (22:52.47).
