Area roundup: Cougars take down Knights in 4

Cedar Mountain 3, St. Mary’s 1

MORGAN — Cedar Mountain took down Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s in four sets of a Tomahawk Division volleyball match on Tuesday, ending the Knights’ five-game win streak with a 25-23, 18-25, 30-28, 25-19 victory.

Cedar Mountain was led by Reagyn Kleinschmidt’s 18 kills, 12 assists, 12 digs and two blocks, while Kendra Erickson had 12 kills, 19 assists, 13 digs and two blocks and Aubrey Steffl had 10 kills and 10 digs. Also for Cedar Mountain, Kendra Lueck had six kills and three blocks, while Brynn Hoffbeck had 23 digs and Jaylyn Welter had eight assists.

The Knights got 42 set assists and 11 digs from Josie Helget, while Morgan Mathiowetz had 26 kills and 18 digs. Audra Hoffmann added seven kills, while Reese Hoffmann had six kills and 16 digs, Ella Pollard had five kills and Natalie Fischer had 17 digs.

Cedar Mountain (20-7, 6-2) and St. Mary’s (19-6, 6-2) await Section 2A playoff seeding.

St. Clair 3, MVL 1

NEW ULM — Minnesota Valley Lutheran fell to St. Clair in four sets of a South Central Conference volleyball match on Tuesday as the Cyclones won 14-25, 25-21, 25-10, 25-17.

Olivia Hammer led MVL with 18 kills, 10 digs and two aces, while Jenna Bates had 12 kills and 19 digs. Marley Schauer added three kills, two blocks and six digs for MVL, while Graysie Black had 34 set assists and six digs, Taryn Gunderson had 17 digs and Izzy Wurster had nine digs and three aces.

MVL (12-12) is at Sleepy Eye on Thursday.

Wabasso 3, Springfield 0

WABASSO — Wabasso swept Springfield 25-11, 25-19, 25-7 on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match.

Wabasso was led by Carly Fenger and Camryn Irlbeck, who each had eight kills. Irlbeck added five total blocks, while Kenley Guetter had six total blocks and five digs, Sara Carlson had 25 set assists and six digs, Audrey Johnson had five aces, Alexa Remiger had five aces and Britta Brand had two aces.

No statistics were reported for Springfield by the time this edition of The Journal went to press.

Wabasso (17-11, 4-4) is at Red Rock Central on Thursday, while Springfield (5-17, 2-6) is at Windom Area on Monday.

Cleveland 3, Sleepy Eye 0

CLEVELAND — Sleepy Eye fell in three sets to Cleveland on Tuesday in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover volleyball match as the Clippers won 25-20, 25-14, 28-26.

Sam Price led Sleepy Eye with 10 kills and seven digs, while Jaelynn Schauman had three kills, 10 digs and 11 blocks. Makayla Strong added four kills for Sleepy Eye, while Destiney Dittbenner had six blocks and three digs and Macy Martinez had 10 digs.

Sleepy Eye (5-15) hosts MVL on Thursday.
