Marshall 4, New Ulm 3
MARSHALL — The No. 5-seeded New Ulm girls tennis team fell to No. 4 Marshall 4-3 on Monday in a Section 2AA Girls Tennis Tournament meet.
At No. 1 singles, Marshall’s Brooklyn Mauch defeated Carmen Schotzko 6-1, 6-0, while Marshall’s Kathryn Coudron beat Natalie Fischer at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, New Ulm’s Lilly Kral defeated Kyra Bailey 7-5, 6-2, while at No. 4 singles, New Ulm’s Ava Kruse defeated Cora Medina 6-4, 6-3.
At No. 1 doubles, Marshall’s Emry Weller and Jazilyn Steinberg-Jones defeated Everly Batt and Kaylee Evans 6-4, 6-0, while No. 2 doubles saw Marshall’s Peyton DeMuth and Eme DeMuth defeat Lydia Osborne and Maggie Joyce 6-3, 6-1. New Ulm’s No. 3 doubles team of Brielle Evans and Eleanor Grathwohl defeated Emry Jans and Julia Pafko 5-7, 6-4, 10-6.

TRUMAN — Cedar Mountain swept Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther on Monday night in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover volleyball match, winning 25-14, 25-22, 25-20.
Kendra Erickson led the Cougars with 11 kills, 14 set assists and eight digs, while Reagyn Kleinschmidt had 11 kills, 11 assists and five blocks. Aubrey Steffl also had 11 kills, seven digs and five blocks for the Cougars, while Brynn Hoffbeck had 10 digs and Kendal Atkins had six digs.
Cedar Mountain (19-7) host Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s in a Tomahawk Division game on Tuesday.
Cathedral 3, Loyola 1
MANKATO — New Ulm Cathedral topped Mankato Loyola in four sets Monday night in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference volleyball crossover match, winning 25-20, 25-21, 22-25, 25-15.
Shay Wilfahrt led the Greyhounds in the win with 29 kills, four aces, 19 digs and three blocks, while Ava Krueger had 14 kills, three aces, 20 digs and two blocks. Abbey Hillesheim had 24 set assists, nine digs and two aces also for Cathedral, while Margo Finstad had 24 set assists and seven kills, Jayde Altermatt had 20 digs and Ashlyn Hillesheim had 14 digs and four aces.
Cathedral (13-12) is at Winthrop to take on Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in a Tomahawk game on Tuesday night before ending the regular season with a Tomahawk game at home Thursday against Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart.
St. Mary’s 3, Nicollet 0
SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s swept Nicollet 25-12, 25-12, 25-8 on Monday in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference volleyball crossover match.
Josie Helget had 27 set assists, three aces and 10 digs for the Knights, while Morgan Mathiowetz had 12 kills, four aces and seven digs and Audra Hoffmann had seven kills. Also for the Knights, Reese Hoffmann had three kills, four aces and 10 digs, while Ella Pollard had four kills, Kailey Nelson had three kills, Natalie Fischer had 11 digs and Brynne Ibberson had six digs.
No statistics were reported for Nicollet by the time this edition of The Journal went to press.
St. Mary’s (19-5) is at Morgan to take on Cedar Mountain on Tuesday night in a Tomahawk battle, while Nicollet (5-17) hosts St. Clair in a Valley matchup on Monday.
