REDWOOD FALLS — The Redwood Speedway wrapped up its season with the Kevin Gegner Memorial, highlighted by the $2,000-to-win Hobby Stock feature as fans were treated to five exciting races this past Sunday.
The night kicked off with the Danube Auto Works Sport Mod division, featuring 13 cars through the back gate. From the drop of the green flag, it was all Broddy Enter in the 23e, leading wire-to-wire. Eric Larson settled into a solid second, while the real battle unfolded behind them for third. The 33 of Jordan Meine and the 86w of Will Kirk traded sliders and door-to-door action all race long, with Meine holding on to claim the final podium spot.
Mager Construction Modifieds Bring the Sparks The Mager Construction Modifieds delivered fireworks next. Jeremy Mills jumped out front early and kept the field at bay, but the real drama brewed in the battle for third. The 12 of Chad Porter, 5 of Brandon Beckendorf, and M8 of Dalton Magers all mixed it up, with Beckendorf attempting a bold move that resulted in sparks flying off the front stretch wall. Damage from the failed move sent Beckendorf hard into the wall, ending his night. Mills stayed steady to take the win, followed by Matt Looft (#9) in second and Dan Menk (19) in third.
The IMCA Sport Compacts brought another thrilling contest, with this year’s point champion Gary Schumacher in the 51x fending off the 119 of Brandon Backstrom to claim his second win of the season at The Big House. The 28x of Brandon Louwagie rounded out the podium in third, putting together a strong finish to close the season.
The Class Too Tough to Tame Brought to the track by J & S Trucking, the Stock Cars lived up to their nickname. Brandon Beckendorf (xx) jumped out front early, but the 87 of Curt Lund stayed close. Lund made a move to the outside coming out of Turn 4, making contact with Beckendorf and sending Lund hard into the front stretch wall. He narrowly avoided flipping but was done for the night. Beckendorf pulled away to dominate, winning by nearly eight seconds. Dustin Zieske (24) earned second, and David Moriarty (30) took third.
The season finale and highlight of the night, the Evolution Ag Technology Hobby Stock feature, saw 23 cars take the green flag for the Kevin Gegner Memorial, honoring one of the sport’s most respected figures. Young pole-sitter Payton Harazin (03) led the first seven laps, fighting through multiple cautions, but lost traction in Turn 3 and fell back into the field. That opened the door for the season’s dominant driver, Cory Probts (75c), who led the final eight laps to take the win. Roger Krebs (69) chased hard but came up short, with Evan Schettler (17) completing the podium. Probts’ victory secured the $2,000 Kevin Gegner Memorial payday, capping a thrilling tribute at The Big House.
