ST. CLAIR — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Madelia 225-22, 25-11, Mountain Lake Area 25-11, 25-21, Blue Earth Area 25-13, 25-12, West Lutheran 25-8, 25-16 and Split two matches against St. Clair, falling 25-22, 25-18 in the first and winning 26-24, 25-18 in the second in a volleyball tournament on Saturday.
Morgan Mathiowetz had 61 kills and 42 digs in the tournament, while Reese Hoffmann had 35 kills. Josie Helget had 129 set assists.
St. Mary’s (16-5) plays at Sleepy Eye on Tuesday.
Madelia goes 3-3 at
St. Clair tourney
ST. CLAIR — Madelia defeated Mountain Lake Area 25-9, 25-18, Blue Earth Area 25-10, 25-12 and West Lutheran 25-7, 25-12 but fell to Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 25-22, 25-11, St. Clair 25-17, 25-17 and Mountain Lake Area 25-23, 23-25, 15-12 in a prep volleyball tournament on Saturday.
Lauryn Grev had 23 kills, 26 digs and 10 aces for the Blackhawks in the tournament, while Grace Tatro had 20 kills, 30 digs and five blocks. Makayla Sorenson had 16 kills, 39 digs and seven aces, and Alicia Lugo had 34 set assists, 21 digs and five aces. Adrianne Missling had 20 set assists, 15 digs and six aces, and Emmy Johnson had 31 digs and an ace.
Cedar Mountain finishes as runners-up at
Nicollet Tourney
NICOLLET — Cedar Mountain defeated Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 25-23, 25-15 and Mankato Loyola 25-16, 25-21 but fell to Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 25-18, 28-20 and BOLD 28-26, 25-22 to finish as runners-up at a volleyball tournament at Nicollet on Saturday.
Kendra Erickson had 46 kills, 31 set assists and 28 digs during the tournament, while Reagyn Kleinschmidt had 25 kills, 31 set assists and seven digs. Aubrey Steffl had 33 kills and eight digs.
Cedar Mountain (12-6) hosts Lester Prairie on Tuesday.
Nicollet goes 2-2 at
home tourney
NICOLLET — Nicollet defeated United South Central 25-20, 25-20 and Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther but fell to Sleepy Eye 25-18, 20-25 and BOLD 25-20, 25-19 in a home volleyball tournament on Saturday.
Madison Kettner had 25 kills and 28 set assists in the tournament, while Kamryn Truebenbach had 15 kills and 31 digs. Megan Soost had 12 kills and four blocks, and Cheyenne Klockziem had 12 kills, five aces and three blocks. Payten Otto had 21 digs and three blocks, and Lydia Martens had 40 set assists.
Nicollet (5-14) hosts New Ulm Cathedral on Tuesday.
PREP CROSS-COUNTRY
Springfield/CM girls win at Butterfield meet
BUTTERFIELD — Springfield/Cedar Mountain beat out Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey on the girls side of a prep cross-country meet on Saturday, beating them out 26-29.
MLA/C won the boys side of the meet (37), topping Madelia (42), S/CM (59) and Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s/Sleepy Eye/New Ulm Cathedral (88).
For the girls meet, S/CM’s Katie Thram placed second (20:15.7), while teammates Lydia Dauer (21:06.3) and Farrah Dauer (21:10.5) placed fourth and fifth, respectively. SM/SE/NUC’s Emma Hagen placed sixth (21:19.1), and teammate Millie Lax placed seventh (21:45.8). S/CM’s Sylvia Hovland placed eighth (21:51.5).
On the boys side, Madelia’s Caleb DeCann placed second (17.22.80), while S/CM’s Dylan Dewitt placed fourth (17:43.6). SM/SE/NUC’s Levi Hagen placed fifth (17:59.6), and S/CM’s Bryan Buerkle took sixth (18:19.00). Madelia’s Carson Meranz (18:38.2) and Tyron Stout (18:52.8) followed in seventh and eighth.
BOYS SOCCER
New Ulm 1, Orono 1
NEW ULM — New Ulm and Orono battled to a 1-1 draw in a nonconference boys soccer game Saturday at New Ulm High School.
Jackson Ocampo scored the goal for New Ulm, while Austin Krohn had 12 saves.
