SPRINGFIELD — Springfield swept Sleepy Eye 26-24, 25-15, 25-16 in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match on Thursday.
Olivia Simonson led the Tigers with 11 kills and eight digs with three aces, while Kendall Krueger had nine kills and two aces. Teagan Steffl had 16 digs, and Sophie Mude had 10 set assists, eight digs and five aces. Taylor Roiger added 10 set assists and eight digs.
Sam Price led Sleepy Eye with 14 kills and eight digs, while Ave Kunkel had 10 set assists and Hannah Meyer had 13 set assists.
Springfield (2-9, 1-3) hosts Red Rock Central on Friday at 1 p.m., while Sleepy Eye (3-9, 1-4) hosts Lester Prairie on Tuesday.
St. Clair 3, MVL 0
ST. CLAIR — Minnesota Valley Lutheran fell to St. Clair on Thursday in three sets, falling 25-18, 25-19, 25-18 in a South Central Conference volleyball match.
Jenna Bates had 10 kills and six digs to lead MVL, while Alexis DeVos had seven kills, Olivia Hammer had six kills and six digs and Ellie Kaesermann had four kills. Graysie Black had 15 set assists also for the Chargers, while Nora Krueger had 14 set assists and five digs and Taryn Gunderson had 23 digs.
MVL (7-6, 3-2) is at the United South Central tourney on Saturday.
Maple River 3,
Sibley East 0
ARLINGTON — Maple River swept Arlington 25-22, 25-12, 25-21 in a South Central Conference volleyball match on Thursday.
Bridget Biron had nine kills, 10 digs and an ace for the Wolverines, while Emme Eccles had 11 digs and a block. Kennedy Hahn, Anna Colling and Harper Drexler each had six set assists.
Sibley East (1-6, 0-5) hosts an invitational on Saturday.
Loyola 3, Nicollet 2
NICOLLET — Loyola defeated Nicollet 22-25, 25-18, 25-14, 24-26, 15-11 in a Valley Division volleyball match on Thursday.
Megan Soost led the Raiders with 11 kills and two blocks, while Madison Kettner, Payten Otto, Cheyenne Klockziem and Kamryn Truebenbach all each had seven kills. Truebenbach had 29 digs, while Chloe Kachelmeier, Otto and Lydia Martens each had 17 digs. Ketter and Martens each had 17 set assists, with Kettner adding four aces and three blocks.
Nicollet (1-7, 0-3) plays in a tournament at Sibley East on Saturday.
Lester Prairie 3, GFW 1
LESTER PRAIRIE — Lester Prairie defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 25-19, 20-25, 25-20, 25-16 in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match on Thursday.
Kora Schwarzrock had seven kills and 12 digs with five aces for the Firebirds, while Chloe Henrichs had six kills and 14 digs. Kinley Bruns had 14 digs and an ace, while Maren Kemkes had 11 set assists. Lauren Schafer had four blocks, and Ella Nachreiner had five kills and three blocks.
GFW (0-7, 0-4) plays in the Sibley East Tournament on Saturday.
RCW 3, Wabasso 1
RENVILLE — Renville County West downed Wabasso 25-16, 13-25, 26-24, 25-19 in a nonconference volleyball match on Thursday.
Kenley Guetter had 16 kills, six digs and a block for the Rabbits, while Carly Fenger had nine kills. Camryn Irlbeck had eight kills, while Audrey Johnson had 20 digs and an ace. Sara Calrson had 40 set assists and an ace.
Wabasso (8-5) plays in a tournament in Burnsville on Saturday.

Cedar Mountain 0
HECTOR — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart swept Cedar Mountain 25-15, 25-17, 25-19 in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match on Thursday.
Cedar Mountain was led by Kendra Erickson’s 12 kills, seven assists and seven digs, while Reagyn Kleinschmidt had six kills, 10 assists and five digs, Aubrey Steffl had five kills and five digs and Brynn Hoffbeck had 11 digs.
No statistics were reported for BLHS by the time this edition of The Journal went to press.
Cedar Mountain (8-4, 2-2) hosts Wabasso in a Tomahawk matchup on Tuesday, while BLHS (16-0, 4-0) is at a tournament in St. James on Saturday.
Cleveland 3, Madelia 0
CLEVELAND — Cleveland swept Madelia 25-14, 25-10, 25-19 on Thursday in a Valley Division volleyball game.
Makayla Sorenson led Madelis with eight kills, while Lauryn Grev added six kills and 10 digs, Alicia Lugo had 10 set assists and 11 digs, Emmy Johnson had 11 digs, Adrianne Missling had seven digs and seven assists and Carissa Sorenson added three kills and two blocks.
Madelia (5-8, 2-2) is at a tournament in St. James on Saturday.
BOYS SOCCER
New Ulm 5, Waseca 0
WASECA — With five goals, each goal coming from a different player, New Ulm shut out Waseca 5-0 on Thursday in a Big South Conference boys soccer game to move to 12-0 on the year.
Cole Frederick, Jackson Ocampo, Tyler Fischer, Methodius Amoah and Josh Gordon had New Ulm’s goals. Levi Johnson had two assists, while Josh Shaneman, Ocampo and Michael Hames each added an assists. In net for the Eagles, Austin Krohn had two saves, while Christian Lyngholm had three saves.
New Ulm (12-0, 4-0) hosts Tri-City United in a Big South matchup at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.
PREP-CROSS COUNTRY
MVL boys take 4th at GSL meet
GLENCOE — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran boys took fourth out of 13 teams Thursday at the Caty Delwiche Invitational.
The boys meet was won by Sibley East. Also from the area, the Springfield/Cedar Mountain boys took ninth.
MVL took ninth out of 13 teams on the girls’ side of the meet, which was won by Dassel-Cokato. The Springfield/CM girls took third, while Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop took fifth and Sibley East took sixth.
For the MVL boys, Jeremy Feistner led with a ninth-place finish (17:55.7), while Titus Kohls took 10th (18:13.9) and Wyatt Lien took 13th (18:26.4, PR).
The Sibley East boys were led by Julio Alejandro (17:15.8, third) and Gage Horstman (17:43.8, seventh), while the Springfield/CM boys were led by Bryan Buerkle (18:25.8, 12th, PR) and Dylan Dewitt (18:34.6, 17th). The GFW boys didn’t have a complete team but were led by Juan Sunun-Perez (18:58.1) and Isaac Beckendorf (20:44.9, 58th).
For the MVL girls, Natalie Matzke placed third (20:36.5), while Faith Peters placed 15th (22:18.5). Grace Peters took 41st (24:55.9).
Lucy Dvorak led the GFW girls with an 11th-place finish (21:58.6), followe by Madyson Steele in 20th (22:45.2) and Kelby Bruns in 37rd (24:27.1). For the Sibley East girls, Paige Gardiner placed fifth (21:07), Ruby Ballalatak took 16th (22:23.9) and Bridget Biron finshed 25th (22:53.2).
For the S/CM girls, Lydia Dauer placed 14th (22:12.7), while Katie Thram took 19th (22:39.9) and Farrah Dauer had a personal-best time of 22:52.9 to place 24th.
