NEW ULM — The New Ulm Eagles girls soccer team was in control Tuesday during a Big South Conference nondivision soccer game with Worthington until a lightning storm spoiled things, suspending the game minutes before the end of the first half.
Jesalyn Skoglund had all four goals for the Eagles before the game was suspended. No further details about when or if the game will resume were available by the time this edition of The Journal went to press.

WORTHINGTON — The New Ulm Eagles stayed unbeaten on the season with a 1-0 win over Worthington on Tuesday night in a Big South Conference nondivision boys soccer game.
John Hoffmann scored the lone goal off a corner cross from Josh Shaneman with 17:48 left in the second half. Eagles goalie Austin Krohn made eight saves.
New Ulm (11-0) is at Waseca on Thursday.

SLEEPY EYE — Wabasso swept Sleepy Eye 25-12, 25-20, 25-20 in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match on Tuesday.
Carly Fenger had 11 kills and a block for Wabasso, while Kenley Guetter had 10 kills and two blocks. Camryn Irlbeck had seven kills and three aces, while Audrey Johnson had eight digs and two aces. Sara Carlson had 37 set assists, seven digs and two aces.
For Sleepy Eye, Sam Price had 11 kills and 10 digs, while Hannah Meyer had 12 set assists. Jaelynn Schauman had three kills and seven digs, and Ava Kunkel had nine set assists and four digs. Callie Evers had four kills.
Wabasso (8-4, 2-2) travels to Renville County West on Thursday, while Sleepy Eye (3-8, 1-3) plays at Springfield on Thursday.

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s swept Lester Prairie 25-21, 25-16, 25-18 in a Tomahawk Division volleyball match on Tuesday.
Morgan Mathiowetz had 12 kills and 14 digs for St. Mary’s, while Josie Helget had 40 set assists. Reese Hoffmann had 10 kills, while Ella Pollard had eight kills and Natalie Fischer had 18 digs.
St. Mary’s (9-3, 5-3) hosts New Ulm Cathedral on Thursday.

MAPLE LAKE — New Ulm fell to Maple Lake 25-19, 22-25, 25-22, 25-17 in a nonconference volleyball match on Tuesday.
Lauren Schmeising had six kills and four blocks for the Eagles, while Keira Sullivan had six kills and three blocks. Lily Poehler had 14 set assists and two aces, whiel Callie Koop had six kills. Isabelle Longtin had nine set assists, Lauren Hitz had 19 digs and Brooklyn Lewis had 17 digs.
New Ulm (3-8) hosts Marshall on Thursday.

NICOLLET — Cleveland swept Nicollet 25-14, 25-21, 27-25 in a Valley Division volleyball match on Tuesday.
Madison Kettner had nine kills and six set assists for the Raiders, while Kamryn Truebenbach had four kills. Payten Otto had four kills and nine digs, and Lydia Martens had 15 set assists and 13 digs.
Nicollet (1-6, 0-2) plays at Mankato Loyola on Thursday.

MADELIA — Alden-Conger swept Madelia 25-9, 25-14, 25-18 in a Valley Division volleyball match on Tuesday.
Makayla Sorenson had four kills, 12 digs and an ace for the Blackhawks, while Emmy Johnson had 16 digs. Alicia Lugo had five set assists and five digs with an ace, and Grace Tatro had three blocks, two digs and an ace. Lauren Grev had two kills and nine digs.
Madelia (5-7, 2-1) travels to Cleveland on Thursday.

NEW ULM — St. Peter defeated New Ulm 7-0 in a Big South Conference girls tennis meet on Tuesday.
New Ulm did not win a set in the meet. No. 3 doubles came closest, with Brielle Evans and Elanor Grathwohl falling 6-2, 6-3 to St. Peter’s Leah Boomgaarden and Kate Moelter.
