Greyhounds go 2-2 at WEM tourney

WATERVILLE — The New Ulm Cathedral Greyhounds went 2-2 at a volleyball tournament at Waterville-Elysian-Morristown on Saturday, with Greyhounds head coach Becky Wilfahrt getting her 300th career varsity coaching win in the process.

Cathedral defeates Fairmont 2-0 and WEM 2-0 before falling to Cleveland 2-1 and Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial 2-0.

Shay Wilfahrt led the Greyhounds on the day with 43 kills, six blocks and 29 digs, while Ava Krueger had 23 kills, 32 digs and five aces and Margo Finstad had 31 set assists and 26 digs. Also for Cathedral, Abbey Hillesheim had 25 set assists and 23 digs, while Ashlyn Hillesheim had 25 digs.

St. Mary’s goes 3-2 at Sleepy Eye tourney

SLEEPY EYE — The Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s Knights went 3-2 at a Sleepy Eye High School volleyball tournament on Saturday. The Knights defeated Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 25-10, 25-17, fell to Mankato Loyola 19-25, 25-16, defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran 25-14, 26-27, defeated Madelia 25-13, 15-25, 16-14 and fell to Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in the championship game 25-19, 25-11.

Josie Helget had 117 set assists on the day for the Knights, while Morgan Mathiowetz had 53 kills and Reese Hoffmann had 34 kills.

MVL goes 2-3 at Sleepy Eye tourney

SLEEPY EYE — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran volleyball team went 2-3 at a tournament at Sleepy Eye High School on Saturday, defeating Mankato Loyola 2-1, Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 3-0 and falling to Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 2-1 in pool play. In bracket play, MVL fell to Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 2-0 and Madelia 2-1.

MVLgot 38 set assists, 18 digs and four aces from Graysie Black at the tournament, while Taryn Gunderson had 69 digs and Nora Krueger had 37 assists, nine digs and three aces. Olivia Hammer had 19 kills, 35 digs and eight aces on the day, while Janna Bates had 35 kills, 37 digs and five aces.

Sleepy Eye goes 1-2 in home tourney

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye went 1-2 at its home volleyball tournament on Saturday, defeating Mountain lake Area 24-26, 25-13 before falling to Madelia 19-25, 25-22 and Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 25-10, 25-19.

Sam Price led Sleepy Eye on the day with 28 kills, 23 digs and four aces, while Jaelynn Schauman had eight kills, 18 digs and three blocks. Hannah Meyer added 27 set assists, eight digs and five aces, while Ava Kunkel had 15 set assists, nine digs and two aces.

Madelia goes 3-2 at Sleepy Eye tourney

SLEEPY EYE — The Madelia volleyball team went 3-2 Saturday in a volleyball tournament at Sleepy Eye High School. The Blackhawks fell to Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 25-9, 25-19, defeated Sleepy Eye 25-19, 22-25, defeated Mountain Lake Area 25-19, 25-13, fell to Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 21-25, 25-15, 16-14. The Blackhawks then defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran 25-16, 22-22, 15-11.

Grace Tatro led Madelia on the day with 23 kills, 45 digs and five blocks, while Makayla Sorenson had 22 kills, 39 digs and nine aces and Carissa Sorenson had 14 kills, nine blocks and three aces. Adrianna Missling added 32 set assists and eight aces for Madelia, while Emmy Johnson had 57 digs.

NEW ULM — Tri-City United won a New Ulm girls tennis invite on Saturday with 21 victories on the day between singles and doubles matchups.
