Area roundup: Eagles finish 6th in Rochester tourney

PREP VOLLEYBALL New Ulm goes 2-3

ROCHESTER — The New Ulm Eagles went 2-3 at a tournament in Rochester on Saturday. They defeated Waseca 25-23, 20-25, 15-12, fell to Century 25-22, 25-16, defeated Albert Lea, 23-25, 25-10, 15-6, fell to Luverne 24-26, 25-21, 15-9 and fell to Mankato East 25-22, 25-17.

In the win over Waseca, Keira Sullivan had six kills and three aces, while Gracie Baker had seven digs, Lauren Schmiesing had two blocks and Izzy Longtin had six set assists.

In the loss to Century, the Eagles got five kills from Brooklyn Lewis, two aces from Calli Koop, seven digs from Baker, four set assists

from Lily Poehler and two blocks from Karly Meier.

In the win over Albert Lea, the Eagles were led by Koop, who had four kills and four aces, while Lewis and Sullivan each had three kills. Poehler had nine digs and six assists, while Longtin had seven assists and Isabel Krenz had one block.

In the loss to Luverne, New Ulm got three kills apiece from Longtin and Koop, an ace and two blocks from Schmiesing, five digs from Baker and seven set assists from Poehler.

In the loss to East, Koop led the Eagles with seven kills and five digs, while Schmiesing had five kills, Poehler had 11 assists and two aces, Baker had six digs, Sullivan had two blocks and Longtin had a

block.

The JV team took fourth in

the tournament.

BLHS 3, RCW 1

HECTOR — The Buffalo Lake Hector-Stewart Mustangs came back to win a four-setter over Renville County West on Thursday night, winning 22-25, 25-23,

25-22, 25-22 in a nonconference volleyball match.

Lily Hubin led the way for the Mustangs with 18 kills, 28 set assists, 12 digs and two blocks, while Elizabeth Ovitt had 18 assists and 11 kills. Chloe Schultz added 12 kills and two blocks for BLHS, while Lauren Hubin had 10 kills and 23 digs and Kelsey Ulrich had 23 digs.
