Amoah hat trick leads Eagles’ shutout of St. James
NEW ULM — Methodius Amoah had a hat trick and the New Ulm Eagles shut down St. James 7-0 on Saturday in a Big South Conference boys soccer game.
Amoah opened the scoring for New Ulm with 30:34 left in the first half on an assist from Jackson Ocampo, who also got into the scoring column twice in the game. Daniel Brownfield’s goal on an assist from Amoah put the Eagles up 2-0 a minute later before Ocampo got his first goal of the day with 15:17 left in the first half on a penalty kick assisted by Logan Goblirsch.
Amoah added his second goal of the day with 13:17 left in the opening half on an assist from Michael Hames.
In the second half, Ocampo got his second goal with 31:34 left to play on an assist by Amoah and a no-ricochet corner kick from Josh Shaneman with 28:53 left to play gave the Eagles a 6-0 lead. Amoah completed his hat trick on an assist by Ocampo with 1:53 left to play.
Eagles goalie Brevinn Vandermause didn’t have to work too hard in net as his team kept the ball away from him and limited him to just two saves.
New Ulm is now 4-0 and hosts Waseca on Tuesday night.
