MORGAN — Edgerton’s Michael Gunnink ran for 243 yards and two touchdowns as the Flying Dutchmen downed Cedar Mountain 52-14 in a Nine-Man South District, West Subdistrict football game on Friday.

Edgerton’s Brady Jandl added three scores on the ground as Cedar Mountain struggled with the deception and strength of Edgerton’s run game.

Carson Schiller had nine completions for 101 yards and two touchdowns in the game for the Cougars, while Jackson Guetter had five rushes for 26 yards and added three receptions for 37 yards and a touchdown. Thomas Dahmes had 12 rushes for 9 yards and three receptions for 17 yards and a TD.

Cedar Mountain started off the game strong with a 25-yard rush by Guetter, but stalled out and was forced to punt. Edgerton marched down with a 14-play drive that ended in a Jandl 3-yard rush, then after a turnover on downs by Cedar Mountain, scored in just two plays as Gunnink ran it in from 42 yards out to give Edgerton a 14-0 lead. A Cedar Mountain three-and-out set up Edgerton for a three-play scoring drive that was capped off by a 25-yard touchdown run by Tucker Arp as the Flying Dutchmen went up 20-0.

Cedar Mountain saw some success on offense in its first drive of the second quarter, starting with two 30-yard passes from Schiller, the second going to Guetter for a touchdown as the Cougars cut the lead to 20-6. However, Edgerton drained the rest of the quarter on a 13-play drive that not even a sack from Kody Wenisch could slow down as Jandl punched it in from three yards out as the half expired.

Cedar Mountain got it’s first stop of the game on the opening drive of the second half, with Colin Scholten recovering a fumble to set up the Cougars at their own 26-yard line. While they went three-and-out on the drive, the Cougars got another stop and forced an Edgerton punt, which Guetter returned all the way to the Flying Dutchmen 29-yard line. From there, Schiller was able to connect with Dahmes for a 8-yard score, with Guetter taking a pop pass from Schiller for the 2-point conversion to cut the lead to 28-14.

However, Edgerton was able to score again on the next drive, and while Cedar Mountain’s Yzykiel Rendon was able to recover a fumble at midfield to give the Cougars good starting position, Cedar Mountain was unable to score or get a stop on defense for the rest of the game as both teams put in their reserves.

Cedar Mountain (0-1) travels to play Wabasso next Friday.

Starting at $4.50/week.
