GIRLS TENNIS

TCU 5, New Ulm 2

NEW ULM — The New Ulm Eagles girls tennis team dropped a Big South Conference tennis meet to Tri-City United 5-2 on Tuesday evening, getting both of their wins from singles players.

New Ulm’s Carmen Schotzko won at No. 2 singles by defeating Reagan Steffen 6-0, 6-2, while Lilly Kral earned a 6-1, 6-3 win over Destynee Wolff at No. 3 singles.

At No. 1 singles, Ellie Adams defeated Natalie Fischer 6-4, 6-2, while Clara Leonard beat Avah Kruse 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.

In TCU’s doubles sweep, Cristina Cruz and Hallie Holicky defeated Kaylee Evans and Lydia Osborne 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Camryn Holicky and Lexie Berger defeated Brielle Evans and Maggie Joyce 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, while Lucy Fleek and Caleigh Hoefs defeated Eleanor Grathwohl and Lilly Rieger 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.

PREP VOLLEYBALL

St. Mary’s 3, MVL 0

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s swept Minnesota Valley Lutheran 25-15, 25-20, 25-15 on Tuesday night in a nonconference volleyball match.

St. Mary’s was led by Morgan Mathiowetz, who had 15 kills, four aces and six digs, while Ella Pollard had seven kills and Reese Hoffmann had six kills and seven digs. Kailey Nelson had six kills also for the Knights, while Natalie Fischer had 11 digs and Josie Helget had 34 set assists and 12 digs.

MVL was led by Jenna Bates, who had 12 kills, six digs and two blocks. Olivia Hammer added seven kills and six digs, while Nora Krueger had 11 set assists, Graysie Black had nine set assists, Taryn Gunderson had eight digs and Marley Schauer had two blocks.

Both teams have cross-town showdowns scheduled for Tuesday night as MVL (1-1) is at New Ulm Cathedral, while St. Mary’s (2-0) hosts Sleepy Eye.

MCW 3, Cathedral 2

TRIMONT — New Ulm Cathedral fell a set short to Martin County West on Tuesday night in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover volleyball match as the Mavericks won 25-14, 19-25, 25-22, 19-25, 15-7.

Shay Wilfahrt led the Greyhounds with 26 kills, three blocks, 16 digs and two aces, while Ava Krueger had 17 kills and 21 digs. Also for Cathedral, Margo Finstad had 21 set assists and Abbey Hillesheim had 18 set assists.

Cathedral (1-2) hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Loyola 3, Sleepy Eye 0

MANKATO — Sleepy Eye was swept by Mankato Loyola on Tuesday night in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover volleyball match as the Crusaders won 25-16, 25-19, 25-18.

Sam Price led Sleepy Eye with eight kills and 15 digs, while Callie Evers had seven kills. Ava Kunkel had 10 set assists and eight digs for Sleepy Eye also, while Hannah Meyer had 10 set assists and six digs.

Sleepy Eye is at St. Mary’s for a 7 p.m. Tomahawk Division volleyball match on Tuesday.

Sibley East 3, GFW 2

ARLINGTON — Sibley East held off Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in five sets on Tuesday in a nonconference volleyball match as the Wolverines won 25-23, 18-25, 25-19, 20-25, 15-11.

GFW was led by Chloe Henrichs’ 15 kills and 15 digs, while Kora Schwarzrock had eight kills and 13 digs. Ella Nachreiner added six kills and three blocks for GFW, while Kinley Bruns had 20 digs, Maren Kemkes had 13 set assists and Natalie Ahlbrecht had 14 set assists.

No statistics were reported for Sibley East.

GFW (0-1) hosts Mankato Loyola on Tuesday in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover match, while Sibley East (1-0) is at Le Sueur-Henderson for a South Central Conference match on Tuesday night.

Wabasso 3, Lakeview 1

WABASSO — Wabasso took down Lakeview in four sets of nonconference volleyball on Tuesday, winning 22-25, 25-12, 25-18, 25-19.

Kenley Guetter led the Rabbits in the win with 12 kills, 13 digs, two aces, seven block assists and one solo block, while Carly Fenger had 11 kills and two aces. Camryn Irlbeck had nine kills, two aces, eight block assists and two solo blocks also for Wabasso, while Audrey Johnson had 18 digs, Leah Mathiowetz had nine digs, Sara Carlson had 40 set assists and three aces and Britta Brand had two aces.

Wabasso hosts New Ulm Cathedral in a Tomahawk Division matchup on Sept. 4.

MLA/C 3, Madelia 1

MADELIA — Madelia dropped its home opener Tuesday to Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey in a nonconference volleyball match as MLA/C won 19-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-14.

Grace Tatro led Madelia with seven kills, while Lauryn Grev had six kills, 18 digs and two aces. Carissa Sorenson added four kills, three aces and two total blocks for Madelia, while Adrianne Missling had nine set assists and three aces, Alicia Lugo had nine set assists and five aces and Emmy Johnson had 12 digs.

Madelia (0-2) is at Cedar Mountain for a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover match on Tuesday.
