Steinbach’s team wins cool Schell’s Bottle Cap Open

NEW ULM — The New Ulm Country Club hosted the Schell’s Bottle Cap Open on Monday as the weather cooled down to signal the end of summer.
The team of Tom Steinbach, Steve Pribly, John O’Hare, Jim Schmidt and Gary Kruggel with a score of 131.
“I think keeping the team loose, keeping the camaraderie together and getting over a bad hole and celebrating good ones [helped us win], Steinbach, who was won the event multiple times, said.
Steinbach said the cooler weather, with a high of 70 on the day, led to a perfect day for golf.
“Weather was wonderful,” he said. “My favorite time of the year. We can’t complain about the weather and the course was very nice. Everything just worked out well.”
In second place with a 131 were Terry O’Donnell, Jason Gieseke, Kelly Dalton, Dave Brown and Kyle Marti. Coming in third were Nate Voges, Jeff Lang, Nick Taralson, Pete Eichten and Jeff Shone with a 132. In fourth with 134 were Dan Reinart, Paul Roberts, Jim Gibbons, Kristen George and Todego Meinert. AJ Lassas, Brad Wieland, Dean Warta, David Vorwerk and Shannon Smith placed fifth with a 134, and Randy Kirchberg, John Wolkerstofer, Joe Mettler, Joe Eckstein and Dean Risius took sixth with a 136. Jeremy Makepeace, Joe Hommes, Roddy Melzer, Randy Cole and Lary Holm came in seveth with 136, and in eighth with 136 were Todd McKeeth, Matt Ness, Bruce Hendrycks, Zach Haag and Lou Vermillion.
Steinbach and Pribly came in first in low best ball with a 58, while Nate Voges and Jeff Lang, Travis Thorson and Adam Nilson and Terry O’Donnell and Jason Gieseke tied for second at 62. Kelly Dalton, Dave Brown and Kyle Marti were first in the low scramble with 69, while Rick Hulke, Don Olson and Peter Macho, Nick Taralson, Pete Eichten and Jeff Schone and Jason Steele, Mark Olson and Mitch More tied for second at 79.
