Orioles drop 1-0 game to Braves at state
BROWNTON – The Leavenworth Orioles came up just short on Saturday night in a Class C Minnesota State Amateur Baseball Tournament second-round game as the Le Sueur Braves hung on for a 1-0 win.
The game started two hours later than its original 6:30 p.m. time slot due to previous games running late in Brownton, thanks to the Glencoe-Paynesville game that started the day in Brownton and went 12 innings. Glencoe ended up winning that game 10-3.
Leavenworth starting pitcher Mark Anderson and Braves starter Logan Feeney were both on their games, but one wild pitch by Anderson in the third ended up being all the Braves needed to take the win.
Anderson finished the game with four innings of work, allowing one hit and five walks while striking out eight. Feeney went seven and allowed three hits and four walks while striking out 12 in the win.
Ethan Hathaway scored the lone run for the Braves in the third inning from third on a wild pitch after leading off with a walk.
Granite Falls draftee Bennett Knapper pitched in relief of Anderson and went four innings, allowing two hits and no walks while fanning eight.
Carson Uecker, Jackson Huiras and Caden Evers each had singles for the Orioles three hits in the game, while Alex Sellner drew two walks.
The Orioles finish the season, while Le Sueur will play the winner of Regal-Waterville in a quarterfinals game at 1:30 p.m. in Hutchinson on Aug. 30.
