ARLINGTON — A first lap yellow flag during the Jack Pines Resort didn’t set the pace very well for the night on Saturday at Arlington Raceway.
The #420 car of Dan Scharpe had troubles when his rear-end locked up and sent him to the pit area for the night. Taylor Manderfield led the first four laps of the race but another yellow came out when contact was made between Ben Davis and Chad Volk. Both resumed the race but Davis restarted on the tail. That gave Cory Probst the opportunity to get around both Manderfield and Blake Luinenburg to take the lead. Yet another yellow came out when RJ Esquada’s hood blew off while in second place. He pulled into the pit. The restart opened the door for Luinenburg to try to gain the lead but he and Probst battled each other to the end with Probst coming out the winner. Luinenburg took second and Chad Volk worked his way back up to third.
Alan Lahr was the early leader in the Coors Light IMCA Sport Compact feature, a series of flat tires send drivers to the work area. First Dale Gatton got a flat right front and then Gary Schumacher and the 24 of Emily Senne received some front-end damage and left the track all on the fourth lap of the race. The 81 of Dale Hartmann then took over the lead and remained the leader to win the race ahead of Lahr and Justin Dose.
The pole sitter Fred Heidecker drove into Turn 1 a little too hard on the first lap of the Olson Snowplowing & Lawn Care Outlaw feature as he spun out and the race had to be restarted. On the restart, Scott Porter took the lead with Dustin Theuringer behind him and Karl Hewitt making it up to third place by Lap 6 from his seventh-place start. A yellow came out when a track cone got hit and flew in the middle of Turn 3. On that restart, Hewitt gained the lead with Craig Groebner around Porter to challenge Hewitt. Lap 12 Groebner made contact with Porter which ended Porter’s night. Again Hewitt took the lead on the last restart while Jesse Anderson advanced eight spots to run in second for three laps. On the final lap, Garett Uecker got around Anderson to finish second and Groebner had made his way back to the front to take 3rd place ahead of Anderson for an exciting end to the race.
The 2j of Jeff Carter was confident at the start of the Arlington State Bank IMCA Sport Modified feature taking the lead right away in the caution free race. On Lap 12, he got a little too high which enabled hard runner Broddy Enter to get by him. Carter recovered but could not get around Enter and had to settle for second behind Enter at the finish line. Joey Reimers took third ahead of Tim Bergerson.
The Rice Companies IMCA RaceSaver Sprint car feature saw two different leaders with Matt Hasara taking the lead on the first lap. It took the 1300 of Brett Allen 7 laps to run him down but by the 8th lap, Allen drove around him in turns 1 and 2 and took over the lead. A yellow came out on lap 13 when Justin Allen spun in turn #4. When the race restarted, 1300 took and commanding lead and won the race. Hasara held on for second and Jeremy Schultz took third place.
The B&B Racing Chassis IMCA Stock Car feature did not disappoint, a first lap yellow was thrown when the cars of Chris Neisen and Jed Trebelhorn made contact and got hooked together, putting both out of the race. When the race restarted, the 56m of Dan Menk led the entire 20 laps. Behind him the Dakota Robinson, Curt Lund and Dan Mackenthun all jockeyed positions for the remaining laps. Lund had the fastest car on the track and finished behind Menk with Mackenthun taking third ahead of Dan Eckblad while Robinson rounded out the top five. In post race tech, Lund was awarded the win as Menk’s car was found to have too short of a wheel base.
Trent Loverude once again pulled off the win in the Ottomotive Tire & Repair IMCA Modified feature leading from start to finish in the caution free race. Clint Hatlestad trailed Loverude the entire distance but had to settle for second ahead of Todd Stinehart and Chad Porter.
There were three different leaders in the Jerry’s HQ Foods Auto Cross feature. The first lap leader saw Brenna Braunworth make a comeback only to fall out six laps later as she rolled her car. Then the 30 of Nick McConnell took over the lead but it only lasted for one lap as Hannah Buskey was the lady in waiting taking over the lead by Lap 3. She had troubles on Lap 6 when cars got mixed up and the red came out. With only two laps to go, McConnell was in the front of the field as both Kailynn Thul and Jake Trebesch exchanged spots. On the final lap, McConnell took the checkered first while Trebesch took send and Thul took third.
