JUNIOR LEGION BASEBALL
New Ulm 7, Alexandria Black 1
New Ulm 6, Marshall Black 3
ALEXANDRIA — New Ulm Junior Legion took first place at a tournament in Alexandria after defeating Alexandria Black 7-1 and Marshall Black 6-3 on Saturday.
Josh Forstner earned the win in Game 1 against Alexandria, striking out one and allowing one unearned run on seven hits in six innings. At the plate, Evan Blekestad was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Tanner Backer was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Forstner had a hit an three RBIs, while Candon Briggs had a hit and an RBI.
Mitchell Hopp earned the win in the championship game against Marshall, striking out six while allowing three earned runs on two hits in six innings of work. At the plate, Ryan Rathmann was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Backer was 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Briggs had a hit and an RBI.
New Ulm hosts Marshall again on Tuesday in a doubleheader.
Sleepy Eye 14, Springfield 6
Sleepy Eye 2, Slayton 0
SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye Junior Legion defeated Springfield 14-6 and Slayton 2-0 to advance to the Sub-State Tournament Sunday.
Sleepy Eye will play at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 20th in Luverne against Maple River.
Landry Folkens earned the win in Game 1 agains Springfield, striking out five and allowing no runs on two hits in five innings. Brayden Heiderscheidt made the start, allowing five earned runs on four hits in three innings with two strikeouts. At the plate, Merrick Mathiowetz was 3 for 5 with three runs scored, while Carson Uecker was 2 for 4 with four RBIs. Karter Haala was 2 for 5 with tow RBIs and two runs scored, and Gavin Fischer had a hit, two RBIs and two runs scored. Folkens had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored.
Eli Streich took the loss for Springfield, allowing seven runs on three hits in two innings. At the plate, Brayden Trapp was 2 for 2 with an RBI, while Thomas Beers had a hit and an RBI and Madden Lendt had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.
Haala earned the win for Sleepy Eye against Slayton, striking out five and allowing two hits and no runs in a complete game. At the plate, Uecker was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, doubling to score Adam Braulick and Jacob Fulmer in the first inning for the only scores of the game.
VFW BASEBALL

BROOKINGS, SD — New Ulm VFW Silver defeated the Dakota Tigers 17-4 on Saturday and fell 4-3 to West Central Royal on Sunday in a tournament in Brookings, South Dakota.
Ryler Collins earned the win against Dakota, striking out five while allowing three earned runs on three hits in six innings. At the plate, Parker Ranweiler, Collins, Evan Starke and Miles Castleman all each had two hits and two RBIs, while Colin McAlpine had a hit, two RBIs and three runs scored. Kaden Stueber had a hit, two RBIs and two runs scored, and Owen Castleman and Noah Gode each had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored.
McAlpine took the loss to WCR, allowing one unearned run with one strikeout in one inning. Owen Castleman made the start, allowing three runs, one earned, on three hits with six strikeouts in five innings. At the plate, Owen Castleman was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Collins was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

NEW ULM — New Ulm Senior Legion defeated Tri-City Maroon 7-5 in a legion baseball game Saturday.
Zach Hubbard earned the win for New Ulm, striking out three while allowing three runs on six hits in four innings. At the plate, Colin Anderson was 2 for 4 with a run scored, while Dirk Haynes had a hit and two RBIs. Jake Finstad had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.
