TEL roundup: Fairfax holds off St. James

Fairfax 6, St. James 4

ST. JAMES — The Fairfax Cardinals held off the St. James Athletics Wednesday night for a 6-4 win in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

After Fairfax was able to make it 6-3 in the top of the ninth, St. James got a run back in the bottom of the ninth on a two-out RBI single from Lucas Anderson. Chase Bottin and Wyatt Haler both walked to fill the bases, but Fairfax starting pitcher Andrew Willemssen was able to finish his complete-game effort with a flyout to win the game.

Willemssen allowed eight hits and four walks for four runs, three earned, in his nine innings of work while striking out six.

Ethan Louwagie led the Cardinals at the plate, going 4 for 5, while Scott Palmer was 3 for 5 with two RBIs and Tom Lokensgard was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Willemssen was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI also, while Owen Swenson was 2 for 4.

For St. James, Dylan Grev took the mound loss in seven innings, allowing nine hits and three walks for five runs, four earned, while striking out five.

Reggie Blom led the A’s at the plate, going 3 for 4 with an RBI, while Sawyer Carr was 2 for 4.

Fairfax moved to 2-13 in the TEL with the win, while St. James dropped to 6-8.

Essig 7, Sleepy Eye 4

SLEEPY EYE — The Essig Bluejays’ five-run third inning was enough to earn them a 7-4 win over the Sleepy Eye Indians Wednesday night in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

After Essig’s five-run third, Sleepy Eye got a run back in the bottom of the inning. The Bluejays took two more runs in the fourth, however, and held on for the win.

Winsten Nienhaus had three of Essig’s 11 hits in the win, going 3 for 4 with a double and a walk, while Erich Prokosch was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs and Nick Stadick was 2 for 5 with two RBIs.

Kaden Peterson got the win for Essig in five innings of work, allowing seven hits and two walks for four runs, three earned, while striking out one. Zach Riederer pitched 3 2/3 innings of scoreless ball for Essig in relief, allowing two hits while fanning five.

Matt Mielke led Sleepy Eye’s nine-hit attack by going 3 for 4 with two RBIs, while Tyler Mathiowetz was 2 for 3 with a double. Luke Mielke took the loss in 3 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and two walks for six runs, four earned, while striking out one. Nick Mielke pitched 5 2/3 innings in relief, allowing five hits and three walks for one unearned run while striking out four.

Essig improved to 3-12 in the TEL with the win, while Sleepy Eye dropped to 6-8.

Hanska 5, Stark 2

STARK — The Hanska Lakers took down the Stark Longhorns 5-2 on Wednesday night in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

Tanner Olson led the Hanska bats, going 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, while Aaron Portner added a double and two RBIs. Sam Knowles got the mound win in 7 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and a walk for one earned run while fanning three. Portner got the save in 1 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and a walk for one earned run while striking out two.

Jon Kopacek took the loss for Stark in seven innings pitched, allowing five hits and two walks for two earned runs while striking out four. Arian Saenz was 1 for 2 with an RBI to lead Stark at the plate.

Hanska moved to 7-6 in the TEL with the win, while Stark dropped to 5-9.

Late Tuesday

Lamberton 9, Stark 1

STARK — The Lamberton Long Sox defeated the Stark Longhorns 9-1 on Tuesday night in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

Jacob Jenniges led the Long Sox bats, going 4 for 5 with a double and an RBI, while Josh Altermatt went 3 for 4 with a double and four RBIs. Seth Guetter was 2 for 5 with three RBIs also for the Long Sox, while Luke Willhite was 2 for 5.

On the mound, Lamberton got an ace performance from Quintyn Vold, who pitched eight innings and struck out 14 while allowing three hits and two walks for one earned run.

Stark had three hits in the game total, led by Adam Sellner’s 1-for-3 game and double. Sellner also took the loss on the mound in seven innings, allowing eight hits and a walk for four earned runs while striking out two.
