Errors plague Jr. Gold in loss to Mankato American
MANKATO — New Ulm Junior Legion Gold fell to Mankato American Junior Legion 10-5 on Wednesday night in a junior legion baseball game.
Tanner Backer took the loss for New Ulm in 2/3 innings pitched, allowing five unearned runs, two walks and a hit batsmen. With New Ulm ahead 5-4 entering the sixth, American took the lead in the sixth with Backer on the mound thanks in large part to three New Ulm errors.
Backer led New Ulm at the plate by going 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, while Evan Blekestad was 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
New Ulm had six errors in the game and used six pitchers, with just two earned runs allowed.
New Ulm (12-2) takes on Aitkin Junior Legion next at 11 a.m. Friday in a tournament game in Alexandria. At 1:30 p.m. Friday, New Ulm is scheduled to take on Elk River in another tourney game.
