Finstad, Anderson, Hubbard lead All-Journal Baseball

FIRST TEAM

Jake Finstad, Sr.,

SS/P, Cathedral

The 2025 Tomahawk Division Player of the Year, Finstad was also an All-State selection after helping take the Greyhounds to their first state championship appearance since 2005. Finstad batted .425 at the plate with 34 hits, six doubles, seven triples and a home run while adding 21 RBIs, 41 runs scored and 31 stolen bases. On the mound, Finstad went 7-1 with 50 strikeouts, turning in a 0.83 ERA with only seven walks and a .775 WHIP in 50 1/3 innings pitched. For his career, Finstad recorded 89 hits, 60 RBIs, 87 stolen bases and 115 runs scored and added 93 strikeouts and a 9-4 record on the mound. Finstad also made the All-State Tournament Team.

Colin Anderson, Sr.,

P/CF, Cathedral

Anderson turned in a top-end, two-way season for Cathedral this year, batting .338 with 27 hits while going 9-1 as a pitcher with 59 strikeouts and a 1.35 ERA in 51 2/3 innings pitched. At the plate, Anderson added 25 RBIs, 30 runs scored, six doubles, a triple and a home run with 16 stolen bases and a .449 OBP on his way to All-Conference and All-State selections. For his career, Anderson finishes with 73 hits, 73 runs scored and 50 RBIs, with 16 wins 134 strikeouts as a pitcher.

Zach Hubbard, Jr.,

CF, New Ulm

Hubbard led the Eagles with a .450 batting average this season, recording 29 runs scored as New Ulm’s leadoff hitter. Hubbard also recorded 13 RBIs and 12 stolen bases in his second All-Conference season, helping the Eagles to a 15-9 overall record.

Jackson Ludewig, Sr., C/3B/P, Springfield

Ludewig led the section runners-up Tigers in batting average this season, hitting .431 with a 1.195 OPS with 31 hits, nine doubles, a triple and two home runs. Ludewig batted in 31 runs and scored 13 of his own while being hit by more pitches (7) than times he struck out (5). Ludewig also pitched 17 2/3 innings, going 2-0 with two saves and 22 strikeouts with a 3.96 ERA.

Noah Neperman, Sr., P/1B, Springfield

An All-Conference and All-State player this year, Neperman was dominant on the mound, striking out 41 batters while allowing just 24 hits in 37.2 innings pitched. Neperman posted a 1.12 ERA and a 0.901 WHIP with a 6-1 record while pitching. At the plate Neperman was a key piece to the Tigers’ offense, batting .348 with 24 hits, 16 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Cody Schultz, Sr.,

P/OF/IF, Sleepy Eye

An all-round athlete who can hit for power or contact, Schultz batted .350 at the plate this year with 21 hits, five doubles, three triples and a home run with 12 RBIs and 20 runs scored. Schultz drew 15 walks and was hit by 14 pitches to only 10 strikeouts, a testament to his elite eyes at the plate. On the mound, Schultz went 5-4 with 49 strikeouts in 51.1 innings with a 3.55 ERA. For his career, Schultz has the most home runs at Sleepy Eye since the BBCOR bats became standard in 2012 with four career homers. He also batted .361 and recorded 70 career hits, with 74 career strikeouts on the mound. Schultz was an All-Conference, All-Section and All-State player this year.

Kade Nachreiner, Sr.,

P/IF, Springfield

Nachreiner was a game changer for Springfield this year, batting .316 with 25 hits, 12 doubles, a home run, 16 RBIs and 21 runs scored at the plate. Nachreiner was also the team’s most-used pitcher, striking out 46 batters with a 1.71 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP in 49 innings pitched in an All-State season.

Elliot Schabert, Sr.,

IF/OF, Cathedral

A .372 hitter with solid power, Schabert was an All-Conference and All-Section selection this year for Cathedral. Schabert recorded 29 hits, eight doubles and a triple on his way to 41 RBIs, most on the team, and 15 runs scored. Schabert also made the All-State Tournament team after driving in four runs in the state championship game. For his career, Schabert totaled 60 hits, 74 RBIs and 43 runs scored.

Tate Becker, Jr.,

P/SS, Madelia

An All-Conference player, Becker was dominant on the mound, boasting an 87-MPH fastball while striking out 80 and finishing out the season with four consecutive double-digit strikeout games. Becker recorded a 1.41 ERA and a .132 batting average against. At the plate, Becker batted .250 during the season and elevated his averaged to .333 in the section tournament, including a home run.

SECOND TEAM

Zach Jacobs, So.,

P/SS, Madelia

Madelia’s team MVP this season, Jacobs was also the Valley Division Player of the Year after batting .359 with a .468 OBP. He also recorded 68 strikeouts and went 6-3 on the mound in 52 innings pitched.

Carson Uecker, So.,

C, Sleepy Eye

In his second year as a starter and first year at catcher, Uecker broke out to lead the team in batting average (.397) and hits (25). Uecker added five doubles, three triples, a home run, 16 RBIs, 12 runs scored and five stolen bases. The lefty also threw out 12 base runners in an All-Conference and All-Section season.

Josh Vander Plas, Sr.,

P/IF, MVL

An All-Conference player, Vander Plas broke out for MVL to become the team’s top pitcher and team MVP. Vander Plas posted a 1.64 ERA with 76 strikeouts in 56 innings, going 6-4 on the mound. Vander Plas’s highlight of the season was a 15-strikeout no-hitter against Waterville-Elysian-Morristown. At the plate, Vander Plas batted .309 with 17 hits, 17 RBIs and eight runs scored. Vander Plas will continue his baseball career at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.

Tanner Backer, So.,

P/1B, New Ulm

As New Ulm’s ace pitcher, Backer struck out 42 batters in 34 innings pitched with a 3.00 ERA and 5-1 record on the mound. Backer also had a strong season at the plate, batting .333 with 17 RBIs in his second consecutive All-Big South Conference season.

Caleb Forstner, Sr.,

P/IF, Cathedral

Forstner stepped up to become an All-Conference player for the Section 2A champion Greyhounds this season, batting .342 with 25 hits, 21 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He also had 23 stolen bases, four doubles and a triple. On the mound, Forstner was a perfect 5-0 with 31 strikeouts and a 2.82 ERA in 39 2/3 innings pitched. For his career, Forstner recorded 63 hits, 44 RBIs and 69 runs scored while collecting nine wins and 52 strikeouts as a pitcher.

Jayden Remiger, Jr.,

SS, Wabasso

An All-Conference and All-Section player, Remiger was the Rabbits’ team captain and MVP this year. A hard-working and coachable player, Remiger batted .377 with 20 hits, seven doubles, a triple and a home run. Remiger added 16 runs scored, nine RBIs and five stolen bases in his junior season.

Talan Helget, Sr.,

P/IF/OF, St. Mary’s

An All-State and unanimous All-Conference selection, Helget batted .373 in his senior campaign, recording 31 hits with 14 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He also pitched 25 1/3 innings with 27 strikeouts and a 7.74 ERA. For his career, Helget recorded 111 hits, 72 RBIs and 83 runs scored at the plate with 128 strikeouts in 110 innings pitched on the mound as a four-year starter.

Dirk Haynes, Jr.,

P/3B, New Ulm

Haynes excelled as a clutch two-way play for the Eagles this year, striking out 22 batters with a 2.90 ERA and 2-2 record on the mound while boasting a .377 batting average. Haynes added 19 RBIs and 18 runs scored in an All-Conference season.

Kaden Peterson, Sr.,

P/C, MVL

Peterson finished his senior year pitching 42 innings for the Chargers, striking out 66 with a 1.43 ERA and a 4-3 record. The All-Conference player also hit .276 this season with 16 hits, three doubles and three triples at the plate. He also had 11 RBIs, 14 runs scored and nine stolen bases.

Peterson finished his career with 60 hits, 45 RBIs and 33 runs scored.
