NEW ULM — Hamel defeated Sleepy Eye Junior Legion 12-7 on Friday in a Junior Upper Midwest Classic baseball game at Mueller Park.
Sleepy Eye, which fell to Alexandria earlier in the day 5-1 in Essig, fell to 0-3 in the JUMC with the loss to Hamel.
Adam Braulick, who finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and three runs scored in the game, drew a walk in the top of the first inning. He moved to second base on a wild pitch and went to third on a sacrifice. He scored when a Sleepy Eye runner was tagged out between first and second base in a rundown.

Vince Scherer walked in the bottom of the inning. He scored on a sacrifice to tie it at 1-1.
The first three Hamel batters made it on base via walks. Brenner Cahout walked and he scored Hamel’s go-ahead run on Jack Servi’s single.
Sleepy Eye answered in the top of the second when Jacob Fulmer scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Chase Zufall which knotted it up at 2-2.
Hamel responded in the bottom of the second when its bats become hot and 13 batters came to the plate. The result was a five-hit, seven-run inning. Four Hamel batters reached on walks. The score was 9-2 for Hamel.
Braulick doubled to left field in the top of the third. He stole second and he scored on a sacrifice for 9-3 Hamel lead.
Sleepy Eye scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Braulick reached on a fielder’s choice. Carson Uecker walked. Both scored on a double by Merrick Mathiowetz. Sleepy Eye got one more run after on a single by Landry Folkens that which made it 9-6.
The bottom of the fifth saw Hamel add three more runs. A walk, two singles and an error all led to those runs which made it 12-7.
Jaxon Saenz belted a triple to right-center field in the sixth and scored on Braulick’s single to cut Sleepy Eye’s deficit to 12-7.
Zufall also doubled for Sleepy Eye in the game.
Merrick Mathiowetz took the loss in 1 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and seven walks for eight runs.
Earlier in the day, Sleepy Eye lost 5-1 to Alexandria. Fulmer scored Sleepy Eye’s only run in that game. Uecker was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI in that game, while Saenz was 2 for 4. Brayden Heiderscheidt took the loss in 3 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and three walks for five runs, one earned.
Sleepy Eye will await its next opponent in the JUMC Saturday afternoon in a game scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at a field to be determined.
