Essig knocks off Springfield
ESSIG — The Essig Bluejays downed the Springfield Tigers 11-8 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game on Thursday night.
Joey Schugel earned the win for Essig, striking out three in two hitless, scoreless innings. Winsten Nienhaus made the start, striking out three and allowing five runs on six hits in five innings. At the plate, Josh Vander Plas has 2 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Nick Stadick, Bradyn Kube and Schugel each had a hit and an RBI.
Jordan Milbrath took the loss for Springfield, striking out seven while allowing three runs on two hits in three innings. At the plate, Decker Scheffler, Ashtin Johnson and Jacob Poehler each had two hits and an RBI, while Tori Helget had a hit and two RBIs. Milbrath also homered for the Tigers.
