Legion Gold bounce back in Omaha tourney

OMAHA, Neb. — The New Ulm Legion Gold bounced back from a tough start in a legon baseball tournament in Omaha by downing he WBS Colts Red team 21-2 in four innings on Tuesday.

The game ended in four innings to the 15-run lead rule.

New Ulm fell 12-1 to the Bossier Vikings Navy team to open the tournament Monday and ended Monday with a 6-0 loss to Central Oregon. Gold flexed their muscles Tuesday in the form of 11 hits, which included home runs from Logan Mielke and Caleb Forstner.

Elliot Schabert led the way for Gold at the plate, going 3 for 4 with four RBIs, while Mielke was 2 for 3 with his home run while adding a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Forstner added three RBIs, two walks and three runs scored with his home run.

Parker Neubauer was 2 for 2 with a triple and four RBIs also for Gold, while Zach Hubbard walked twice and scored three runs, Jake Finstad walked twice and scored four runs and Kyle Albrecht had a double and two RBIs.

Dirk Haynes got the mound win in four innings, allowing three hits and a walk for two earned runs while striking out seven.

Gold will play another tourney game Wednesday morning.
