NEW ULM — New Ulm Junior Legion Gold 10-runned Waconia Junior Legion Post 150 twice on Sunday in a junior legion doubleheader.

New Ulm won Game 1 by a 10-0 shutout in five innings before finishing Game 2 with an 11-1 win in five innings.

Both games ended before the seventh inning due to the 10-run lead rule.

In Game 1, Josh Forstner led Jr. Gold with an inside-the-park home run and four RBIs. Alex Portner was 2 for 4 with three runs scored also for New Ulm, while Eli Anderson was 2 for 2 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored and Evan Blekestad doubled, drove in a run and scored two runs. Caleb Forstner pitched five innings and allowed one hit and three walks in the win with four strikeouts.

In Game 2, Lane Ruch was 2 for 2 for Jr. Gold, while Anderson was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Portner was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Hunter Larson added a triple for New Ulm, while Tanner Backer was 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs.

Candon Briggs got the six-inning win on the mound, allowing four hits and no walks for one earned run while striking out seven.

Sleepy Eye 8, Hopkins 4 (Game 1)

Sleepy Eye, Hopkins (Game 2, 8 innings)

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye Junior Legion Hopkins took both games of a junior legion baseball doubleheader against Hopkins on Sunday.

Sleepy Eye won Game 1 by a score of 8-4 and won the second in an extra-inning comeback, winning 12-10 in eight innings.

Eli Christensen was 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead Sleepy Eye in Game 1, while Carson Uecker was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored.

Sleepy Eye had four pitchers pitch in Game 1, with Chase Zufall leading the way with one scoreless inning of relief, allowing one hit and one walk.

In Game 2, Jack Windschitl was 3 for 5 with an RBI to lead Sleepy Eye, while Uecker was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs and Landry Folkens was 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Folens also had the go-ahead base hit for Sleepy Eye in the eighth. Karter Haala then entered in the bottom of the eighth to take the mound win, allowing no hits or walks while striking out one. Haala also had a double at the plate.
