NEW ULM — The Castleman brothers scored seven runs and drove in five for New Ulm VFW Silver to help their team earn an 18-0 shutout over Blue Earth on Thursday at Mueller Park in a VFW baseball game.
The game ended in the fifth inning due to the 10-run lead rule.
Silver picked up 11 hits and played error-free ball while Blue Earth struggled to put bat on the ball and keep it clean in the field, finishing with three hits and seven errors.
Silver got three hits apiece from Owen Castleman and Miles Castleman. Miles Castleman was 3 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs, a walk and four runs scored, while Owen Castleman was 3 for 4 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored.
Tanner Kissner was 1 for 3 with three RBIs also for Silver, while Parker Ranweiler, Paxton Johnson and Trevan Thordson each had a hit and an RBI.
Miles Castleman got the win, giving up two hits and no walks while striking out two in three innings. Johnson tossed two innings in relief to preserve the shutout, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out five.
Silver ended Thursday with another win, this time defeating Madelia 5-1.
Kaden Stueber led Silver at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two RBIs, while Ranweiler was 2 for 3 and Thordson added a double and two runs scored. Ryler Collins got the win in four innings, allowing four hits and no walks for one unearned run while striking out six.
Jeremiah Garza took the loss for Madelia, allowing five hits and no walks for two runs in two innings. Zach Jacobs was 2 for 2 with a double to lead Madelia, while Jonathan Makela was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

SEARLES — Springfield held off Madelia 5-3 in a junior legion baseball game on Thursday at Searles Ballpark.
Adiel Trevino was 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs to lead Springfield, while Kadyn Anderson and Leo Hovland each had a hit and an RBI. Ely Streich earned the win in four innings, allowing three hits and two walks for two runs while striking out four.
Madelia was led by Kolten Tande, who was 1 for 2 with two RBIs, while Zach Jacobs added a hit, an RBI and two runs scored. Jacobs took the loss in three innings, allowing three hits and a walk for five runs, one earned, while striking out six.
