Bueglers steady on Day 1 of state golf

Strei, Kucera lead area’s Class A boys in Becker

JORDAN — New Ulm’s Jaxon Buegler and Mason Buegler both had a strong first day of the Class AA Boys Golf Tournament at Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course on Tuesday, with Jaxon Buegler sitting at five strokes over par and Mason Buegler sitting at six over par.

The leader on the day, Detroit Lakes’ Brock Burhans, shot a 69 to sit three under par. Jaxon Buegler shot a 77, and Mason Buegler shot a 78.

CLASS A

In the Class A tournament at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker, the Sleepy Eye United girls golf team sits in sixth place, shooting 390 as a team, while the boys team finished the day in eighth, shooting 344 as a team.

Dawson-Boyd led in the girls tournament with a 338, followed by Park Christian (348), Fillmore Central (366), Murray County Central (377), Badger-GB-MR (389), SEU, New Life Academy of Woodbury (414) and Walker-Hackensack-Akeley (419).

WHA leads the boys with a 315, followed by Legacy Christian Academy (319), Rushford-Peterson (328), Park Christian (333), Lac qui Parle Valley (334), Lakeview (339), Badger-GB-MR (341) and SEU.

Sam Price leads the SEU girls with a score of 89, while Chloe Walter shot a 93. Kiara Murphy shot a 95, Ella Pollard shot 113, Elizabeth Currans shot a 128 and Caroline Currans shot a 134. Also for the girls, Springfield’s Mavri Winkelmann shot a 85, while Springfield’s Ava Lipetzky shot a 105. The leader for the girls was Dawson-Boyd’s Lindsey Lund, who shot a 78.

For the SEU boys, Nolan Kucera led with an 81, followed by Anders Coulson (87), Blaine Arneson and George Schwint (88), Josh Sellner (89) and Isaac Christensen (93). Also from the area, New Ulm Cathedral’s Owen Strei shot an 81, while Springfield’s Braiden Davis shot an 85. The leader for the boys was Traeton Nelson from Ashby-Brandon-Evansville with a 72.

Day 2 of the tournaments continue on Wednesday.
