Hartness named All-Tomahawk Softball Player of the Year

The Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division Player of the Year was announced Thursday afternoon, with New Ulm Cathedral catcher Jaylin Hartness earning Player of the Year honors.
Hartness, a senior and unanimous team selection, led the Tomahawk-Valley Conference champion Greyhounds in almost every hitting statistic, such as batting average (.451), hits (37), RBIs (30), homers (5), doubles (11) and slugging percentage (.768).
Joining her on the All-Tomahawk team were Cathedral teammates Abbey Hillesheim, Jayde Altermatt and Ava Brennan, while Brynn Wilfahrt, Ava Schmid and Madelynn Haala were all Honorable Mention.
From Sleepy Eye, Taylor Berkner, Paige Haala and Callie Evers made the team, with Brissa Hernandez earning Honorable Mention.
State entrants Wabasso saw Sara Carlson, Aylah Jenniges, Audrey Johnson and Camryn Irlbeck make the team, while head coach Tiffany Eichten was named the Tomahawk Division Coach of the Year.
Lester Prairie had Payton Fransten and Miranda Mallak make the team, with Austin Walstrom and Kalley Christen earning Honorable Mention.
Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart had Elizabeth Ovitt and Sadie Kirtz make the team, while Kelsey Ulrich was Honorable Mention.
Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s had Taylor Mathiowetz named to the team and teammates Sidney Tauer and Eva Schweiss named Honorable Mention.
Springfield’s Emma Hauger and Makay Winkelmann rounded out the All-Tomahawk team, while Abby Groebner was Honorable Mention.
Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop’s Nicole Duehn was named an Honorable Mention in the Tomahawk.
