Cubs score late to down Brewers in TEL
COURTLAND — The Courtland Cubs broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth with three runs to take down the New Ulm Brewers 4-1 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game Wednesday.
The Cubs took advantage of an infield error in the eighth to score Mason Cox and Nolan Drill and make it a 3-1 game, while Maddox Mortensen singled in another run for a 4-1 Cubs lead.
New Ulm outhit the Cubs 5-3, but the Brewers had four errors to the Cubs’ two.
Mortensen, Teagan Kamm and Jackson Bode had Courtland’s hits, with Bode and Mortensen each having an RBI.
An Andrew Peters RBI double led the New Ulm bats.
Ethan Stade pitched seven innings for New Ulm in the no decision, allowing two hits and four walks for one unearned run while striking out 13. Wade French took the loss in relief, allowing one hit and two walks for three unearned runs while striking out three.
Ansen Dulas got the win for the Cubs in three innings of relief, allowing one hit and two walks for no runs while striking out three. Bode got the start and went six innings, allowing four hits and two walks for one earned run while striking out nine.
Courtland is now 5-0 in the TEL, while New Ulm is 3-2.
