Sleepy Eye stops Essig in TEL action Sunday

ESSIG — The Sleepy Eye Indians downed the Essig Bluejays 9-6 in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game Sunday.

Marcus Martinez earned the win for Sleepy Eye, striking out one and allowing three runs on six hits and a walk in six innings. Jake Mielke pitched three innings in relief, allowing three runs on four hits with two strikeouts. At the plate, Jon Petermann was 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored, while Matt Mielke was 2 for 5 with two RBIs. Thor Weiss had a hit, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Sam Tessmer had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored. Jake Mielke added a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

Zach Riederer took the loss for Essig, striking out six while allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks in five innings. Isaac Lendt pitched four innings in relief, striking out four while allowing five runs on three hits and five walks. At the plate, Bradyn Kube was 3 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Nick Stadick was 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Jake Stadick had a hit and three RBIs, while Winsten Nienhaus had a hit and an RBI. Carson Helget was 2 for 2 with two runs scored.

Sleepy Eye (2-2) hosts Fairfax on Sunday, while Essig (1-5) plays at Stark on Wednesday.
