Eagles boys, girls take 7th at Big South Championship

ST. PETER — The New Ulm Eagles boys and girls track and field teams both finished seventh on Thursday evening at the Big South Conference Championship at St. Peter High School.

Marshall won the boys side with 152.5 points, followed by Belle Plaine (127), Fairmont (104), Worthington (95), St. Peter (82), Waseca (66), Waseca (52), New Ulm (52) and Tri-City United (23.5).

St. Peter won the girls side of the meet with 165 points, followed by TCU (133.5), Marshall (107), Fairmont (104), Waseca (83), Belle Plaine (69), New Ulm (24.5) and Worthington (15).

Placing in the top five for the New Ulm boys, George Gag took fifth in the 200 (22.92), while Dain Barie took fourth in the 400 (53.03) and Preston Holberg took fifth in the long jump (18-11.5). The New Ulm boys 4×100 relay team of Isaac Friese, Hunter Heil, Jackson Ocampo and Jamison Portner also took first with a time of 44.04 seconds. The New Ulm boys 4×200 team of Portner, Ocampo, Sullivan Gusso and Gag took second (1:33.18).

For the New Ulm girls, Kaelyn Eikanger took fifth in the 400 (1:02.81), while Elizabeth Dake took fifth in the shot put (33-08). Jesalyn Skoglund took fifth in the high jump (4-09), while Sophia Berger took fifth in the pole vault (9-01).
