ESSIG — Brandon Schmitz struck out 10 in five innings of mound work and the Leavenworth Orioles powered past the Essig Bluejays 16-0 in seven innings of a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game Sunday.

The game ended in seven innings due to the 10-run lead rule.

Schmitz got the win, allowing just one hit and one walk. Mark Anderson pitched two perfect innings in relief for Leavenworth, striking out four. At the plate for the Orioles, Jackson Huiras was 4 for 6 with a homer and six RBIs, while Anderson was 3 for 5 with an RBI. Also for Leavenworth, Zach Mickelson was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, while Alex Sellner was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Austin Uecker doubled and added an RBI.

Jay Helget had Essig’s lone hit in the loss. Winsten Nienhaus took the mound loss in 3 1/3 innings of relief, allowing two hits and two walks for five runs, three earned, while striking out five.

The Orioles moved to 2-0 in the TEL with the win, while Essig dropped to 0-2.

Springfield 16, Searles 0

SPRINGFIELD — Tyler Dick and Justin Haugo each allowed just one hit while the Springfield Tigers offense poured on the runs in a 16-0 win over the Searles Grizzlies in seven innings of Tomahawk East League amateur baseball action on Sunday.

The game ended in seven innings due to the 10-run lead rule.

Tyler Hach led the Springfield bats by going 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, while Jordan Milbrath was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Kade Nachreiner added a hit and two RBIs.

Dick got the mound win in four innings of work, allowing one hit and two walks while fanning two. Haugo pitched the first three innings and allowed one hit and no walks while fanning three.

Searles got its hits off the bats of Dan Reinke and Ben Dumonceaux, with Dumonceaux’s hit being a double. Josh Johnson took the loss in four innings, allowing six hits and three walks for six runs, three earned, while striking out three.

Springfield moved to 1-0 in the TEL, while Searles fell to 0-2.

Hanska 10, Sleepy Eye 4

HANSKA — Despite both teams having nine hits apiece Sunday, the Hanska Lakers took advantage of 14 free passes to earn a 10-4 win over the Sleepy Eye Indians in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.

Sleepy Eye sent four pitchers to the mound, who allowed a total of eight walks and six hitters to reach on hit by pitches.

Tanner Wenninger was 2 for 4 with an RBI for Hanska, while Kevin Larson was 2 for 6 with a homer and two RBIs. Brady Mosenden added a double and an RBI for the Lakers. Sam Knowles pitched five innings for Hanska in the win, allowing five hits and a walk for four runs, none earned, while fanning four. Ethan Mixdorf pitched four innings in relief and allowing four hits and one walk while striking out eight.

Jon Petermann, Jake Mielke and Kaleb Butenhoff each were 2 for 4 at the plate for Sleepy Eye, while Matt Sellner doubled and had two RBIs. Marcus Martinez took the loss for Sleepy Eye in four innings, allowing three hits, five walks and three hit batsmen for five runs, four earned, while striking out five.

Hanska moved to 2-0 in the TEL, while Sleepy Eye fell to 1-1 in the TEL.
