WINDOM — New Ulm Cathedral earned their 15th win in a row after going 2-0 against a pair of Class AA teams Saturday at the Windom Softball Invitational, shutting out Fairmont 3-0 and running by Windom 18-1 in five innings.
Against Fairmont, Jayde Altermatt got the win in the circle for Cathedral, allowing four hits in 6 2/3 innings while striking out nine. Brynn Wilfahrt was 2 for 3 with an RBI for Cathedral, while Margo Finstad was 2 for 3 and Ava Brennan doubled.
Against Windom, Abbey Hillesheim got the win in the circle in five innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits and four walks while striking out two. Hillesheim was also 3 for 3 with an RBI at the plate to lead Cathedral’s 18-hit attack, while Wilfahrt was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, Finstad was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs and Madelyn Haala was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs. Ava Krueger was 2 for 2 with two RBIs, while Brennan was 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs and Jaylin Hartness was 2 for 3 with three RBIs.
Wabasso 7, MCC 5
Wabasso 6, Edgerton 0
WABASSO — Wabasso went 2-0 in its home softball tournament Saturday, defeating Murray County Central 7-5 in its first game of the day and defeating Edgerton 6-0 in Game 2.
In the win over MCC, Wabasso got the win in the circle from Aylah Jenniges, who pitched all seven innings and allowed seven hits and no walks for five runs, two earned, while fanning six. Alivia Olson led the Rabbits at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
Jenniges again got the win for the Rabbits against Edgerton, allowing just two hits and one walk in all seven innings while striking out six. She also had a double for Wabasso, while Camryn Irlbeck tripled and drove in three runs and Kayleigha Johnson had a hit and two RBIs.
Nicollet 4, WEM 3
NICOLLET — Nicollet held off Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 4-3 on Saturday in a nonconference softball game.
The Raiders got the win in the circle from Leah Bode, who went all seven innings and allowed just one earned run on five hits and a walk while striking out four. She also homered for the Raiders, while Zoie Rengstorf added a hit and two RBIs and Madison Kettner had a hit and an RBI.
Cleveland 17, Madelia 2
CLEVELAND — Madelia fell to Cleveland 17-2 in four innings Saturday in a Valley Division softball game.
Lauryn grev was 1 for 2 with a homer and two RBIs to lead Madelia at the plate, while Payton Bruns and Kellie Koberoski had Madelia’s other two hits in the game on singles. Emily Jacobs took the loss in the circle in 3 1/3 innings, allowing six earned runs on 14 hits and four walks while striking out one.
PREP BASEBALL
Mankato West 9, New Ulm 2
NEW ULM — Mankato West defeated New Ulm 9-2 Saturday at Mueller Park in a nonconference baseball game.
Zach Hubbard took the loss for New Ulm, now 10-4. He allowed eight earned runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out one.
Dirk Haynes had three hits for the Eagles, who had 13 hits but also had three runners thrown out at home and stranded 14 runners on base.
Owen Castleman and Hubbard each added two hits for New Ulm.
New Ulm hosts Marshall Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Mueller Park in a Big South Conference game.
