Sibley East girls win home Lions meet
ARLINGTON — The Sibley East girls track and field team took first at the Sibley East Lions Meet on Friday with 141 points, finishing ahead of Minnesota Valley Lutheran/New Ulm Cathedral (122) and LeSueur-Henderson (104).
Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop took fourth on the girls’ side of the meet with 93 points, while Minneapolis Roosevelt took fifth (57) and Lester Prairie took sixth.
LSH won the boys’ side of the meet with 146 points, finishing ahead of MVL/NUC (121.5), Minneapolis Roosevelt (89), Sibley East (73), Lester Prairie (71), GFW (47.5) and Hutchinson (11).
The Sibley East girls saw several top three finishers. Ruby Ballalatak took first in the 800-meter race (2:35.41), while Bridget Biron took second in the event (2:37.97). Adilynn Odenthal took third in the 100-meter hurdles (17:08) and third in the 300 hurdles (53.77), while Emme Eccles took second in the 300 hurdles (53.4). The Sibley East girls 4×100 relay team of Odenthal, Makayla Mehlhop, Audrey Ott and Rachelle Wear also took first (53.38), while the 4×800 team of Biron, Nora Doehling, Ella Doehling and Ballalatak took first (10:54). Abigail Kuehn won the shot put (34-08), while teammate Brianna Kettner took third in the event (31-04). Kuehn and Kettner also took first (109-0) and second (108-06), respectively, in the discus. Colling tied for third in the high jump (4-06), while Eccles took first in the long jump (15-04.25) and Olivia Halquist took third in the triple jump (28-07).
FInishing in the top three for the MVL/NUC girls was Avery Hopp, who took third in the 200-meter dash (29.09), while Faith Peters took third in the 1,600 (6:10.05), Kamryn Davey took first in the 100-meter hurdles (16.75) and Claudia Weisensel took second in the 100 hurdles (17.07). Weisensel also took first in the 300 hurdles (51.16). The MVL/NUC girls 4×200 relay team of Olivia Hammer, Hopp, Davey and Tiphany Dos Santos also took first (1:54.23). Hammer took third in the high jump (4-06), while Natalia Wald took third in the pole vault (6-0), Hopp took third in the long jump (13-04) and Davey took first in the triple jump (33-06.75).
The GFW girls were led by Kinley Bruns, who took second in the 100 (13.23) and first in the 400 (1:01.47), while Silvana Ruiz took third in the 800 (2:39.83), Lucy Dvorak took first in the 1,600 (5:53.08) and Madyson Steele took second in the 1,600 (5:57.84) and second in the 3,200 (13:00.41). Annie Wersal also took third for the GFW girls in the discus (107-11), while Trinity Stearns took second in the high jump (4-08).
The MVL/NUC boys were led by Josh Bentler, who took second in the 100 (11.53), while Levi Johnson took third in the 200 (24.44), Austin Vee took third in the 800 (2:20.43), Jeremy Feistner took first in the 1,600 (4:51.16) and Tucker Kohls took first in the 300 hurdles (44.44). Benjamin Rossow took second in the shot put (41-07) and second in the discus (131-0), while Jaden Helget took first in the pole vault (11-06) and Ethan Schauland took second in the pole vault (10-0).
For the Sibley East boys, Gavin Pomplun took first in the 800 (2:10.63), while Julio Alejandro took third in the 3,200 (10:22.48) and Aidan McCue took second in the 110 hurdles (15.59). The Sibley East boys 4×800 relay team of Alejandro, Mausten Krueger, Gage Horstman and Pomplun also took first (8:54.19). Also for the Wolverines boys, Paul Taaffe took third in the pole vault (9-06), while McCue took second in the triple jump (40-09).
Easton Taylor had a third-place finish in the 110 hurdles (16.63) and 300 hurdles (46.54) for the GFW boys, who also saw Dominic Krumwiede dominate the discus with a first-place throw of (156-01).
