PREP BASEBALL

WABASSO — Cathedral downed Wabasso 15-4 in five innings in a Tomahawk Division baseball game on Tuesday.
Caleb Forstner earned the win for Cathedral, striking out four while allowing one run on six hits in five innings. At the plate, Elliot Schabert had two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Colin Anderson had a triple and three RBIs with two runs scored. Evan Blekestad added two hits and two runs scored for the Greyhounds.
Calvin Hanna took the loss for Wabasso, allowing six runs on two hits and three walks. At the plate, Jayden Remiger, Drew Kemp and Jaxon Wagner each had two hits, with Wagner adding an RBI and Remiger scoring two runs.
Cathedral (8-1, 7-1) hosts Lester Prairie on Thursday, while Wabasso (1-8, 0-7) hosts Sleepy Eye on Thursday.

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 7-1 in a Tomahawk Division baseball game on Tuesday.
Merrick Mathiowetz earned the win for St. Mary’s, striking out five while allowing four hits and one earned run in four innings pitched. Kessler Severson pitched three innings in relief, striking out seven and allowing one hit and no runs.
At the plate for the Knights, Merrick Mathiowetz was 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Tyler Mathiowetz was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Talan Helget was 2 for 4 with two runs scored, while Severson was 2 for 4 and Michael Balko added an RBI.
Layton Uecker-Hamre took the loss for GFW, striking out six and allowing six runs, two earned, on seven hits in four innings pitched. At the plate, Kaden Rieke had a double, while Owen Swenson had a hit and a run scored. Uecker-Hamre picked up the RBI.
St. Mary’s (6-4, 5-3) hosts Mankato Loyola on Wednesday, while GFW (1-9, 0-6) hosts Springfield on Thursday.

SLEEPY EYE — Springfield rolled Sleepy Eye 15-2 in five innings in a Tomahawk Division baseball game on Tuesday.
Noah Neperman earned the win for Springfield, striking out three and allowing one run on two hits in three innings. At the plate, Jackson Ludewig was 4 for 4 with three RBIs, while Kade Nachreiner was 2 for 3 with a home run, three runs scored and an RBI. Neperman was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, while Madden Lendt had two hits and an RBI.
Cole Eckstein took the loss for Sleepy Eye, striking out four and allowing 10 runs on 10 hits. At the plate, Jacob Fulmer, Cody Schultz and Kaden Klein each had a hit.
Springfield (11-0, 9-0) plays at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Thursday, while Sleepy Eye (6-4, 4-4) hosts Wabasso on Thursday.

GAYLORD — Sibley East defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran 10-0 and 11-0 in a South Central Conference doubleheader on Tuesday, both in five innings.
Josh Vander Plas took the loss in Game 1, striking out three while allowing four earned runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings. At the plate, Vander Plas had MVL’s only hit.
Caden Willmsen got the win in Game 1 on the mound, allowing one hit and a walk for no runs while fanning nine in five innings. Nate Colling, Willmsen and Leyton Dose each had two hits for the Wolverines, with Colling and Does each driving in two runs.
Jensen Gerdts took the loss in Game 2 for the Chargers, allowing three runs on three hits. Vander Plas, Josh Carlovsky, Pierson Brau and Aiden Eckberg each had a hit for MVL.
Quintin DeVlaeminck got the in on the mound in Game 2, allowing four hits and three walks for no runs in five innings and striking out three. Will Feterl and Evan Pautsch each got two hits to lead Sibley East in Game 2, while Dose added a hit and drove in two runs.
MVL (7-4, 4-3) hosts Mankato Loyola on Tuesday, while Sibley East (7-4, 5-2) hosts Lester Prairie on Friday.

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye downed Springfield 8-3 in a Tomahawk Division softball game on Tuesday.
Taylor Berkner earned the win for Sleepy Eye, striking out seven while allowing three runs on six hits and five walks. At the plate for Sleepy Eye, Berkner was 3 for 4 with five RBIs, while Callie Evers was 3 for 4 with a double and two runs scored. Paige Haala had two hits and two runs scored, whilue Jaelynn Schauman was 2 for 2 with a double and a run scored. Jace Schauman had two hits and a run scored, and Megan Sellner had a hit and two RBIs and Nora Coulson had a hit and an RBI.
Jalyn Louwagie took the loss for Springfield, striking out two while allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks in four innings. At the plate, Abby Groebner was 3 for 4 with a double, while Emma Hauger was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Teagan Steffl was 2 for 3 and scored two runs.
Sleepy Eye (10-1, 8-1) travels to Wabasso on Thursday, while Springfield (4-7, 3-7) hosts GFW on Thursday.

WINTHROP — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s cruised by Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 15-0 in a Tomahawk Division softball game on Tuesday.
Natalie Zarn earned the win in the circle in a one-hit shutout, striking out five and walking two. At the plate, Sidney Tauer was 3 for 3 with a triple, two RBIs and four runs scored, while Eva Schweiss was 3 for 3 with a triple, three RBIs and four runs scored. Taylor Mathiowetz was 3 for 3 with a triple and three runs scored, and Nell Weiss was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Reese Hoffmann had a hit and an RBI, while Olivia Schieffert had a hit and two RBIs.

ST. PETER — St. Peter took a close 4-3 win over New Ulm Tuesday in a Big South Conference boys tennis meet.
New Ulm’s Charlie Weidman downed St. Peter’s Eze Ribar 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Dan Brownfield defeated Jaxson Schaefer 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for New Ulm. New Ulm also picked up a win at No. 4 singles with Isaac Dittmer defeating Brayden Rothenberger 6-3, 6-3.
New Ulm hosts Worthington and Blue Earth Area on Thursday.

SEU boys 161, RRC 189, Wabasso 221
SEU girls 195, RRC 205, Wabasso 246
SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye United swept a home golf invite on Tuesday, with the boys winning with a score of 161 and the girls placing first with a 195.
The Red Rock Central boys and girls placed second, scoring 189 and 205, respectively, while Wabasso came in last with a 221 and a 246.
SEU’s Nolan Kucera was the medalist for the boys’ meet with a 38, followed by SEU’s Anders Coulson (39), Blaine Arneson (40), George Schwint (44) and Isaac Christensen (44), with Wabasso’s Brayden Guetter placing sixth with a 45.
On the girls’ side of the meet, SEU’s Sam Price won with a 48, followed by RRC’s Jorga Brown (40), RRC’s Aryanna Weber (46), SEU’s Chloe Walter (51), SEU’s Kiara Murphy (51), SEU’s Ella Pollard (55), RRC’s Josie Timm (55), and Wabasso’s Josie Wiese and Alexis Jensen (58).

WINTHROP — The Springfield boys defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 181-198 and the Tigers girls scored a 230 in a prep golf meet on Tuesday.
The GFW girls were incomplete.
Springfield’s Braiden Davis was the medalist for the boys, scoring a 42. He was followed by Springfield’s Tayte Zihlke (43), GFW’s Cole Jacobson and Springfield’s Erik Davis (46), and GFW’s Carson Lee and Lincoln McCue (50).
On the girls’ side of the meet, Springfield’s Mavri Winkelmann placed first with a 54, followed by Springfield’s Ava Lipetzky (56), Springfield’s Kynslee Kastner (59), Springfield’s Brooklyn Anderson (61) and GFW’s Abigail Willegal and Springfield’s Annie Kuehn (65).
