NORTH MANKATO — Madelia couldn’t quite get enough production out of its bats in the first game of a Caswell Park softball invitational on Saturday, falling 9-3 to Blooming Prairie.

Makayla Sorenson took the loss in the game, striking out three while allowing eight earned runs on 11 hits. At the plate, Grace Tatro was 2 for 4, while Alicia Lugo waas 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Veronica Ibeling had an RBI.

Neither team was able to score in the first inning, but Madelia strung together a pair of hits from Madelyn Lehman and Emmy Johnson, then Lehman came home on an error put into play by Lugo.

Blooming Prairie stormed back in the third inning, plating five runs and sending all nine batters to the plate. Madelia cut into the lead in the bottom of the inning, with Lauryn Grev drawing a walk, Tatro doubling and Ibeling hitting a sacrifice fly to bring Grev home, but a popup ended the inning, limiting the damage.

Blooming Prairie stayed hot in the fourth, collecting two runs on three hits. Madelia got some runners on base in the fifth, with a double from Sorenson and a walk from Grev giving the Blackhawks a chance with just one out, but Blooming Prairie came together to get the next two outs. Madelia did get one run in the sixth, with Lehman reaching on an error then being brought home on a double from Lugo, but Blooming Prairie tacked on two runs in the top of the inning to put the pressure on the Blackhawks. Madelia did load up the bases with walks from Sorenson and Ibeling and a single from Tatro, but once again Blooming Prairie got the final two outs to prevent any runs and seal the win.

Later in the day, Madelia took a 14-1 loss in four innings to Maple River. Emily Jacobs was in the circle for the Blackhawks, striking out two while allowing 13 earned runs on six hits and eight walks. Lehman had the only hit for Madelia, while Grev had an RBI, with Jacobs scoring the run.

Madelia (3-7) hosts Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda on Monday.
