SLEEPY EYE — Cody Schultz highlighted Sleepy Eye’s Tomahawk Division doubleheader against Lester Prairie on Tuesday, throwing a no-hitter in Game 1 and adding three hits on the day.

Schultz’s complete-game no-hitter saw him strike out 13 batters while walking four as his team earned a 6-0 win. He also was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI in the game, while Carson Uecker was 3 for 4 with two triples and two RBIs and Gavin Strong was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Landon Wendinger and Kayden Klein each added a triple, with Wendinger driving in a run.

In Sleepy Eye’s Game 2 loss 9-7, Strong led the Indians at the plate by going 3 for 4 with an RBI. Schultz had a triple and an RBI in the game also, while Klein tripled.

Sleepy Eye (2-2, 2-2) is at Fairfax for a Tomahawk doubleheader against Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Monday.

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield swept a Tomahawk Division baseball game against St. Mary’s on Tuesday, winning 16-2 in five innings in Game 1 and 10-7 in Game 2.

Jackson Ludewig got the win in Game 1, striking out four while allowing one earned run on one hit in five innings. At the plate, Noah Neperman was 2 for 3 with four RBIs and three runs scored, while Adiel Trevino was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Madden Lendt had a hit and two RBIs, while Sudwig had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored.

Michael Balko took the loss for St. Mary’s, striking out two while allowing four runs on five hits. Brandon Braulick had the only hit for St. Mary’s and also scored a run.

Brayden Sturm earned the win for the Tigers in Game 2, striking out six while allowing three runs on four hits in four ininngs. At the plate, Kadyn Anderson was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Lendt had a hit and two RBIs awit htwo runs scored. Brecken Heiling had an RBI and two runs scored on one hit.

Merrick Mathiowetz took the loss for St. Mary’s, striking out five while allowing five earned runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings. At the plate, Kessler Severson was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Brandon Braulick was 1 for 4 with two RBIs. Mathiowetz added two hits, an RBI and two runs scored.

Springfield (3-0, 3-0) hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Thursday, while St. Mary’s (0-2, 0-2) hosts a doubleheader against Wabasso on Monday.

LESTER PRAIRIE — Sleepy Eye swept a Tomahawk Division softball doubleheader against Lester Prairie on Tuesday, defeating the Bulldogs 9-0 in Game 1 and 9-3 in Game 2.

Taylor Berkner earned the win in Game 1, striking out 15 batters and allowing just one hit. Brissa Hernandez and Megan Sellner both went 2 for 3 as the Indians collected nine hits for the game.

Berkner also took the win in Game 2, striking out 12 and allowing three runs on three hits. Berkner went 3 for 3 at the plate with three RBIs, while Hernandez was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Callie Evers and Paige Haala each went 2 for 4 as Sleepy Eye racked up 13 hits as a team.

Sleepy Eye (4-0, 4-0) hosts a doubleheader against Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Monday.

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s and Springfield split a Tomahawk Division softball doubleheader on Tuesday as Springfield won Game 1 12-9 and St. Mary’s took Game 2 10-6.

Jalyn Louwagie earned the win in Game 1, striking out two and allowing no earned runs on eight hits. At the plate for Springfield, Abby Groebner was 3 for 5 with an RBI and three runs scored, while Makayla Winkelmann was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Regan Beadell added a hit and an RBI for the Tigers.

Taylor Mathiowetz took the loss for St. Mary’s, striking out five while allowing five earned runs on nine hits. At the plate, Mathiowetz was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a walk, while Reese Hoffmann was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Sydney Tauer had two RBIs and a run scored, while Josie Sellner had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

Natalie Zarn earned the win for St. Mary’s in Game 2, striking out one while allowing five earned runs on nine hits. At the plate, Josie Helget was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Nell Weiss and Hoffmann each had two hits. Eva Schweiss had a hit and two RBIs, while Mathiowetz had a hit and an RBI.

Fayelynn Williams took the loss for Springfield, striking out five while allowing two earned runs on eight hits. At the plate for the Tigers, Jasmine Novotny was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Beadell was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Groebner was 1 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.

St. Mary’s (1-1, 1-1) travels to play Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Thursday, while Springfield (1-2, 1-2) travels to play Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Thursday.

STEWART — Wabasso swept Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 7-2 and 12-2 in five innings in a Tomahawk Division softball doubleheader on Tuesday.

Aylah Jenniges earned the win in Game 1, striking out 10 while allowing two earned runs on five hits. Macy Rohlik was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored at the plate, while Camryn Irlbeck was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Aylah Jenniges was 2 for 3 with a run scored, and Sara Carlson had a triple and an RBI.

Aylah Jenniges also got the win in Game 2, striking out five and allowing two unearned runs on three hits in four innings. At the plate, Kayleigha Johnson was 2 for 4 with three RBIs, while Peyton Jenniges was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Aylah Jenniges added a hit, two RBIs and a run scored.

Wabasso (3-1, 3-1) hosts Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Friday.

Cleveland 7, Madelia 3

MADELIA — Cleveland downed Madelia 7-3 in a Valley Division softball game on Tuesday.

Makayla Sorenson took the loss for Madelia, striking out nine while allowing five earned runs on five hits in six innings. At the plate for Madelia, Veronica Ibeling was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, while Grace Tatro was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Madelia (1-2, 0-1) plays Nicollet at Searles on Thursday.

PREP TRACK AND FIELD

MVL/NUC sweeps at St. James meet

ST. JAMES — Minnesota Valley Lutheran/New Ulm Cathedral won both sides of a prep track and field meet on Tuesday, with the boys team scoring 120 points and the girls team scoring 137 to win.

On the boys’ side, Loyola-Cleveland scored 105 to place second, followed by St. James/Madelia (95), Tri-City United (75), Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (70), Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda (64), Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin (31) and Grananda-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther (22).

On the girls’ side, TCU placed second (134), followed by Loyola/Cleveland (81.5), SJ/M (75.5), HLO/F (59.5), GFW (50), MCW/BO (28) and GHEC/T/ML (16.5).

For the MVL/NUC boys, Josh Bentler (11.58) and Jaden Helget (11.84) took the top two spots in the 100-meter dash, while Tucker Kohls placed third in the 110-meter hurdles (18.85). The 4×100 relay team of Helget, Levi Johnson, Ben Riesgraf and Bentler took first (46.91), while Jaden Helget (12-0) and Ethan Schauland (8-6) took the top two spots in the pole vault. Johnson won the long jump (19-4) and Trace Gunderson won the Triple Jump (36-8.5).

For the GFW boys, Garrett Stegeman took second in the 400 (59.44), while Jose Farias Banda took third in the 400 (1:00.11). Easton Taylor won the 110-meter hurdles (17.41) and placed second on the 300-meter hurdles (46.29), while Dominic Krumwiede won the discus (141-11).

On the girls’ side for MVL/NUC, Avery Freier (17.27) and Kamryn Davey (17.47) took second and third in the 100-meter hurdles, while Claudia Weisensel placed second in the 300-meter hurdles (52.28). Jennarae Bates won the shot put (32-1), while Olivia Hammer and Bates tied for second on the high jump (4-8). Emily Brown took second in pole vault (7-0) and Davey took second in triple jump (31-8). Annie Wersal took second in discus (97-3).

For the GFW girls, Kinley Bruns placed second in the 100 (13.66) and second in the 400 (1:05.54), while Maddy Lee took third in the 400 (1:08.56).
